New Sig P220 , any good ?
Looking at a New Standard 220R-45-B-DAK with the external extractor. Wondering if they are worth the money ? Heard Sig was having some QC problems a while back. Did they get that fixed ? Would really hate to invest that much money in a gun that is not 100 % reliable when it counts.

Based on my daily observations over on Sig Forum, QC issues appear to be down considerably.
As an aside, make sure you're familiar with the characteristics of a DAK trigger.

This is my impression too. I also go to that forum, although not daily and lately I've notice less complaints about Sigs Pistols. Maybe they got rid of that guy from Kimber?

The Kimber Mimber Man is still there. He and his minions are most likely trying to move all operations to Exeter.

In general, the newer external extractor P220's have a better reputation than the milled slide internal extractor models. (The folded slide models w/ internal extractors were fine).
My new P220 ST (external) is great, high quality, smooth trigger (smoother than my W. German P228) reliable and super accurate.
Traded a 2nd gen Glock 21 for it, no regrets at all.

Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of the new Sigs.
Give me a older German P220.
...without the rail.

Then there's the Platinum Elite or "The Pathetic Pimp Pistol" designed by a comotose committee on LSD.
There's something there for everyone... except the serious shooter.

There is a local gun shop with one of these ANIB for $1000 and I've been thinking of buying it or one of the newer 220 with the SRT for about $780 from Bud's, even less with my LE discount. A posting by Bruce Grey on Brian's Forum blames the extraction failures on the heavier steel frames of Sigs on retarding the recoil to much, but I haven't had a problem with my steel frame 220 or 226.

Interesting. Bruce has seen my Sigs which are all stainless steel (with the exception of the 239 with an aluminum alloy frame), and he never mentioned extraction failures due to recoil retardation of steel framed Sigs. I'll ask him about this when I catch up with him at a training class in April.
These have been 100% reliable.
Specifically the 220ST with internal extractor.

Hello Cobra, I should of posted a link to Bruce's comments on the heavier frame leading to additional problems. I would of swore Bruce made that comment on Brian's Forum where he does post, but I was wrong. Went to the Sig Forum and found it there. It's the third post on this page, Bruce's second post on that page: http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc...9530035922/p/3
It may be like Indiana Glock's 22 having problems when lights were attached to the frame which added enough inertia to the frame there were functioning problems. Have a good day and post when you talk with Bruce.

Thanks for the link, Gary. Bruce's write-up reminds me of the one he did when discussing reliability of short barreled 1911s with geometry, spring rates, dwell, and timing. The man's knowledge and 35 years pistolsmithing experience is amazing.

My P220/DAK been great in the reliable department. Like cobra mentioned , be sure of the DAK trigger but if you find that you don't like it , you could always which it to da/sa.
My P220/DAK.
