I'm not going to bring up NYC as you said you weren't going to NYC. They have some different rules.
Sorry. You have to have a NYS permit to handle or possess a handgun in NYS. (exceptions for competition/training/traveling through to another state aside). Basically you can't if you are just visiting and you shouldn't risk it.
I run into the same thing when I visit places like Boston and other unfriendly non-res states. My apologies, I really do wish it was different for our out of town guests. Other states trust us with our CCW, we should do the same.
There is no non-resident CCW. I know it's not fair and we have a couple of groups in NYS that are working hard at trying to change the laws.
