That is beautiful.

You really need to sell or trade me that 1917.

How about a S&W 625 3"?

or a

S&W 66-1 2 1/2"?

or an

Astra Terminator 2 1/2" .44 Magnum?

or what do you like?

They're all great looking revolvers, but I have to admit a special yearning for the 627.

I too like the high horse power 357 mag snubs. I tried the small ones 340,640 j-frames along with the 19 and 66,but to truly shoot one with effect in a snub the 686 trumps the lesser smaller light guns even the 19 and 66. .The 686 has enough weight and control plus it will hold up. One other is the 3" fixed site GP100. My two preferred full power 357 mag ccw wheelguns.

C&L, I also can't get enough of your 1917. Very cool.
Here is the story behind the S&W 28. Wait until you see what I have in the works right now. Should be ready in a few weeks.

Most Impressive! The job they did on the barrel and sight is amazing. I'd probably want to be carrying that 28 all time...and your 1917 too. I missed that info on the Colt Forum some way.

Keep us posted on the new project!

Recently aquired this S&W M1917 "Fitz Special", .45 acp.
The barrel has been shortened to 3", rifling is sharp & smooth, front sight installed, grip frame has been rounded off, hammer bobbed (grooves cut into top of hammer), will shoot single & double action, lanyard ring hole on bottom of the grip frame has been plugged, and the trigger guard cut to a Fitz style. The grips do not appear to be original.
The S&W shoots very nice, shot 26 rounds 230gr FMJ. The sights are well regulated, and the trigger is real smooth. The Smith has some mechanical problems, but that will be addressed later.
Whoever customized this revolver, did a nice job. It also appears to have been done a long time ago.
Per Roy Jinks, the M1917, serial #126xxx, was shipped October, 1918.
Enjoy.
