I generally live by this philosphy. But...
Spam is not high on my list. Its...OK. Certainly edible, and ...
Acceptable.
There is an exception granted to spam in that it is high protein/fat, a
meat that can be stored unrefrigerated. So I do store more of it
than I would eat generally, especially due to the recent sale of 3 for
5 bucks. I figured I've wasted much more than the $30 bucks I spent
on the stash.
Yes, it will be heaven in a can if SHTF. chopped and cooked with rice
and in theory it can be eaten cold while I huddle in a cold basement
after the big one goes off and those in the distance starve while
extracting themselves from the ruble.
I was imagining the super bowl parties in trailer parks across the
land will be cubing the stuff for skewering with toothpicks on the big
day the steelers take on the Pack, to go with their keystone light
and maybe a velveeta dip over a sterno can.
But I digress...
What did I do this week? I posted in the correct thread.

It could be that it was because I had the Lite spam. Maybe the hi-test or bacon flavor would be better. I recall trying the hickory flavor awhile back and it wasnt bad.

Doubled my firewood supply. Can make it thru the rest of the year now, at least till spring. Some more split too, before the snow flies here in VA tonight.

I recall eating spam as a kid. My mom used to put it in a glass dish and pour a can of baked beans over the top and heat it in the oven - IIRC it wasn't too bad with the beans masking the flavor. And at that time there was only ONE flavor spam. I have it in my preps, but I'll give it to the dogs when expiration comes up.
The only thing I did this week was pick up some more Eneloop batteries - replacing all my old standard NiMh batteries with them. Also picked up a spare Olight M30 and a book on animal trapping and a couple extra CAT tourniquets.
Watched Right Outside Your Door with the wife the other night and she's hot for some more stock - off to Sam's Club when the roads clear ;-)

Picked up more dry milk to pack away.

Was it the "store" brand?,if so,rinse them then freeze them. When you go ta use them the taste should be improved.I use store "brands" for dtd,I use the national brands for longer term storage.'08.

As for my week...
Ordered 2 cases (1,120 rds per case) of Yugo 7.62x39mm FMJ ammo packed on strippers....$182 each + shipping
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...box&groupid=39
Really have a "soft spot" for ammo that is prepackaged on strippers..
..sealed for long term storage..
..& cases that have handles for portability!
All of the above goes well with my 'ammo philosophy'.....as articulated on this thread.
http://98.196.65.94/practicalpreps/f...hp?f=32&t=2153
Also ordered 120 rds of the above 7.62x39mm (for T&E....so I can leave the cases sealed)..
..100 rds of 9x18mm JHP (T&E)
..and 100 rds of Dynamit Nobel (GECO) 9x19mm FMJ (T&E).

I have.
This is not commercial ammo. It is designed to run in AKs and SKSs. The Brass is not an issue because it is used once. The STRIPPERS are GREAT!!.
The issue, it is corrosive. It is just not worth the extra time for me to clean my rifle every time I shoot. I don't shoot that often. I shoot multiple rifles when I go. I may only shoot 10-50 rounds per gun....

Thanks! For me, I tend to shoot only a couple of guns per visit. So the corrosive ammo is not an issue for me.

Found Campbells Chunky Soup at Hyvee for .99 a can bought some of those, plus other canned goods. Also did a full inventory of food and ammo. Helps to know what you have too much of and not enough of!

Yep, I ran thousands of mil-surp brass-cased 7.62x39mm with no problems..
..expecting the same results here as well.
And love the fact it is prepacked on strippers!

Yes, the ammo does have corrosive primers & is Berdan-primed..
..as was most of the 7.62x25mm. 7.62x39mm, 7.62x54R ammo I have shot over the decades..
..& also most of the 7.62x25mm. 7.62x39mm, 7.62x54R, etc ammo I currently stock .
Even some of the Eastern Bloc ammo labled "non-corrosive" was found to have corrosive primers...IIRC
The AKM I practice with most are from either Norinco or Poly Technologies..
..both having corrosion resistant bolts, bolt carriers, firing pins, extractors, springs, etc..
..as well as chrome-plated gas pistons, bores & chambers.
My practice is done differently..
..normally lots of rounds thru a single gun or a few guns..
..many of my guns do not see much daylight after they are sighted in & function tested for issues..
..so a little extra attention when cleaning is not a problem.
That being said...I have found no real issues even if the Norincos or Poly Technologies AKM are not cleaned properly..
..and have done much worse..
(outside in the dirt for several weeks in the weather for T&E)
..with no functional effects to the test guns.
On the flipside..
With guns that do not have "corrosion resistant" this & "chrome-plated" that..
(like my .50 BMG when shooting corrosive ammo)
..they get the boiling hot water treatment...or similar..
..followed up with a coating of oil soon after firing.
Lacking 'due dilligence' when using corrosive ammo with these guns is not a good practice to follow!
YMMV

Picked up a used maverick 88 and 2 boxes of shells for under $200. Also picked up 300 more rounds of 45ACP from WW.
