Planning on buying a new Sig. This will be a full sized pistol and I want it to be pretty. Is the X-Five worth the extra bones over the Elite version? I can get either one relatively easy. I like the SA only, but it's not a deal breaker. I'm going to get either in stainless with wood grips. I have to say that the xfive is just beautiful...period. Sig elite looks similar without the epic grips and mag well. X five also doesnt have a rail...not a deal breaker though. HELP ME!

And the X-Five...*drool*

Neither is replacing my Glock 19 BTW...just an extra fun gun no purpose other than make me happy

What's the Elite "version"?

They two completely different pistols built in two different countries. There are absolutely no comparison in quality. The Elite is a POS as far as I'm concerned. The X-Five is one of the best pistols ever built. The X-Five is hand built in Germany, while the Elite is built by those clowns in Exeter.

The Elite shouldn't even be allowed to wear the same name as the X-Five. They're night and day different. The quality of the Elite is no better than the standard American P226.

Don't go by "similar" looks.

Personally, I would never buy an Elite and pay a premium for a gussied up 226 with a rail, tail, and lumber.

Furthermore, most serious Sigsters do not like rails, and I'm one of them. I paid $400 to have rails removed from my P226ST and another $300 to have the action slicked up to German SL standards.

Then there is the question of whether either double stack pistol wearing furniture will even fit you hand. Many Elite owners throw out the $200 grips and replace with standard thickness aluminum or plastic stocks. The X-Five L1 is a German built, hand made competition pistol with adjustable trigger and enlarged mag well for speed reloads. The Elite comes off the line and dumped in a bucket with 500 others.

I'd suggest you decide whether you are going to shoot whatever you're buying, or put it in a display case.

Exactly, I don't even think they look good with all that garbage hanging off them.

I'd much rather have an older German steel P226.

I've got an X-Five Competition and an X-5 Tactical and I highly recommend them. I've had a standard SIG P226 before and it isn't even in the same universe as an X-Five. Just my opinion, but if money were no object, I would get the X-Five everyday and twice on Sunday.

My next gun will be a plain old 226 which I am going to get a thread barrel and supressor for. Then I want the level 1 but I might get the ppc version. I have been thinking about shooting in ppc matches again

I've huge grape ape hands, so the grips shouldn't be a problem. Over the years I've purchased quite a few tactical or does this or that handguns and settled on a Glock 19, as it just does everything I need. Being that the G19 is my everyday "beater" if you will, not that it gets neglected, I'd like a sleek, beautiful, great shooting pistol to take to the range and hell maybe even carry it once in a while in the winter...maybe...I just love the look of the X-Five and have heard great things about it. So it looks like I'll have to take the plunge into the world of Sig, as this will be my first.

I've heard bad things about the Exeter stuff too...It will take a while to save up the denero for an X-Five but it's on "the list". Thanks for your help fellas.
