Slight slide "hitch" when cycling.
I noticed when slowly cycling the slide on my Springfield that there seems to be a slight "hitch" when the slide moves about 1/2 way back, and again in the same spot when the slide comes forward. Is this normal?

Well, I'm not too sure being not-so-versed in 1911's, but it occurs right around the slide stop area.

Is this hitch when a empty mag is in? Sounds like the slide stop is catching on the take down notch.

I don't remember off hand. I'll have to get back with you in a few.
But regardless, with or without an empty magazine, it sounds like it shouldn't be happening?

It's hard to say honestly without actually feeling the hitch. If it's mainly when cycling slowly, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

It is the edge of the hammer catching the firing pin stop slow down and look at it from underneath you will see it happen I polished the bearing surface of my hammer now Smooth sailing.
or you can shoot it a few thousand rounds, the polishing just does it quicker.

Ok, looking at it a bit closer, it looks like it could be the hammer, as there's some wear to the bearing surfaces, but I'm kind of leaning more towards the slide stop as the "hitch" occurs at the take down notch and the stop notch.
Pulling the stop, the crossbar shows some wear, too.
I don't know. I'm not overly worried. I'll FINALLY be able to put some rounds through it this weekend!! We'll see what's what.

I noticed the same thing on my new Rock Island tactical full size. When it's real slow it's noticeable, but when moved a bit quicker I don't feel it. I doubt it should cause an issue when at the range.

You're probably feeling the disconnector sliding in and out of it's notch in the slide. Regardless, how does she run? If the gun functions fine then just shoot the hell out of her and find a real problem to worry about.
Just my 2 cents...

I was Thinking that, but that happens almost immediately like within 1/8 inch of travel. the hammer drags about the halfway point.
