What's the turn around time for something like that?
I was thinking about Duracoating it myself to save some dough, but I'm not so sure how well it will hold up to frequent use. I have a rifle I refinished with Duracoat but it sits in the safe.

It depends on how backed up they are. The tGO1 comes standard with the Roguard and I order the RRA with the Black T, so I don't know for sure. I have heard 90 days or so.

Depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of finish you're looking for.
Hard Chrome, Ionbond, or Melonite are the best treatments out there in terms of wear. They are expensive though.
Black T is "OK" IMHO but notably one of the softer finishes and overpriced considering you can find someone to Cerakote a gun for around $150. FWIW I've owned guns with both types of finishes.
Robar's NP3 is also an excellent option, not to be confused with Roguard.

Don't mistake Black-T for the other "baked on" finishes. There is a reason why the other finishes cost less. They simply don't do the same thing. Even when you get some wear on the high points, Black-T is still protecting the metal. It is actually impregnated into the metal during the refinishing process. Black-T is guaranteed for life. It's very slick - to the point your gun will be self-lubricating. It's easy to clean a gun that's finished in Black-T (basically you wipe your gun clean with a cloth).
My other choice would be Robar's NP3. It does everything that Black-T does, except that it's a dull gray color.

I will echo what others say about NP3. Its also an outstanding finish. I was only listing the black finishes, but NP3 is what is on the frame of the TGO. Roguard is on the slide. Its a two tone Robar finish and the best finished 1911 I own.

Thanks for the info guys. I definitely want a black finish so the np3 is out. I'll have to contact some of these places to find out some pricing and turnaround times. I also need to factor in price to ship it there and back, I think it has to be over nighted both ways which ain't cheap.

Yeah, I figured you wanted black.
Good choice for a carry gun.

Robar offers Roguard.
You can see the Robar finishes in this link.

Black T is done at Birdsong. That's his finish.

The Springfield Custom Shop will refinish your 1911 in Black-T (not to be confused with their Armory Kote, which is a totally different finish). According to their price/spec sheet, the cost to refinish the entire gun in Black-T is $195. Click on the link below and then click on the box for "1911-A1 Custom Worksheet".

They just send it to Birdsong. Black T is his finish, not Springfield's. You may as well just send it to him directly.

They are Larry Davidson's Barbed Wire grips.
I normally prefer his Horned Lizard grips. I found these
listed on a 1911 froum site. Bought them as quickly as I could.
Love 'em!

I'll play
Attachment 161270
Attachment 161271
Attachment 161272
Top pistol is a 1991 Colt .38 Super/9mm Conversion pistol that I have some work into.
The center gun is a Kimber in .45; the only Kimber parts that remain are the frame, slide and barrel.
The third gun is a Ti Caspian frame with .38 Super/9mm barrels that I built.
