My basket case nears completion.

It began life with me as a basket case, that was missing parts. Over the last six months I have been making changes .

From something worse than this,

From something like this, (actually started worse than this, tiny sights and missing parts before I took pictures): I added Millet sights, and some parts out of my parts bin to get it running.

The SHOT ShowCase

To this: New trigger, grips, beveled the mag well, trigger job.

The SHOT ShowCase

To this: New beaver tail, hammer, more bevel in the mag well, raised front strap/triggerguard, EGW barrel bushing, and a coat of Norrels Moly Resin.

The SHOT ShowCase

MEU/SOC inspired. I'm considering an ambi safety if I can find one I like. If it needs to be more accurate I may fit a Kart Barrel.
MEU/SOC INSPIRED!!! I like it too, but mine's is a Norinco I Will post pics later on!

my own version of the MEU/SOC

no disrespect intended since I built mine on my Norinco I've had since 1995...

Durocoat, McCormick Non-gunsmithing rear sight, Para hammer, Wilson Combat internals, Wolff Springs, OEM frame, slide and barrel, STI grip saftey, it's a deeper black than my crap picture shows

Haven't looked for Pachmeyers yet, maybe at the upcoming Ft Worth show...

Very nice!

How does it shoot?

I just picked up a LNIB Norinco Deluxe, that has factory wood grips.

I did not have a chance to shoot it yet, but it appears to be a very solid, well built 1911.

Norincos are definitely very well built 1911s, srothman. It will be the next, and probably last, production 1911 I buy.

Congrats on yours.

I used the matt black...this one

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...eitemid=756251

was really easy..considering i Third World engineered it...

made a drying box out of plywood, with a heatlamp inside. used a $15 airbrush from Hobby Lobby, with two cans of compressed air. This was in 2006 and it's held up great. I did muck up the first run...used thinner to remove without curing...reprepped and dryed off..and then reapplied. 2nd time was the charm. The parts are a mix of blued, stainless from various sources (STI, Wilson, OEM, Smith/Alexander) and I just wanted a uniform finish. the grips are off Ebay, I think they are Kimber, and still not sold on them. May go with a nice walnut or Pachmyers when the show comes to Fort Worth in 2 weeks. Not an exact replica of the MEU/SOC, but then I'll never be able to afford the Kimber version!

Shoots point of aim. was a little to the right, so I just used a wood block and tap a lil, shoot, tap shoot a lil....and it's dead on now at 25 yards with the Novak front dovetailed in the front. Groups can run 2" easy, and a past friend that was a Master Limited got them under 1.5" with no flyers from a rest. I always have fliers....

shoot mostly ball, 230 grain Poly and FMJ, but will feed 200 gr semi-wad (shot that almost exclusivly when this was my Limited 10 piece) and 230 grain Hydrashocks.

I love this gun. I'll never get rid of it. I just hope to afford a 9mm 1911 to pair up with it

No disrespect taken. Yours looks great too. Mine isn't an exact copy of the MEU/SOC pistol either. I liked the idea that the Marine Corps picked parts to make a good compromise between basic and user friendly, without compromising the combat toughness of the pistol.

I used a craft store airbrush to apply the Norrells Moly Resin on mine and a toaster oven to bake the parts.

McCormick was selling them before they got out of the .45 parts. I have an extra in the bag i'm saving for the next build. They were around $50 from Brownells. The front is dovetailed in, a Novack Front blank that I cut to the profile i wanted after my gunsmith dovetailed the slide. He also beadblasted all the parts, stainless and blued, to prep for finish. I'm astounded by the uniformity of the finish, regardless if the part was blued or stainless. The mag release is a slightly extended version in blue that matches perfectly that McCormick used to sell.

I found these on the 1911 forums, and a poster said they are like the ones McCormick used to sell. Just drop in the factory sight dovetail and tighten. Be sure to sight in first before hard tightening...they won't come off!

sorry to hijack the thread..any more Norincos?

Ya...thanks...I just can't get used to the looks of that rail! Ugly to meas well! I like the clean looks...which is why I am seriously saving my pennies for that DW Valor...one of the cleanest looking 1911's I have seen in a long time!

Now if I could get that "TACTICAL" off the dust cover!

Yeah, I don't like the TRP's "TACTICAL" stamp either.

I have no idea why SA would stick that on there.

Me either...really...it's my only complaint with the TRP's...oh well...like I said...I will have to get me a Valor to satisfy my "pure and simple" affections in a 1911...I love how the Valor's slide is devoid of ANY writing other than the small little script, "Valor"...that is just so sweet!

God, that's a pretty weapon. My local shop has one for $1400 or so. I'm not about to pay that price, but it's nice to have been able to look at one in person.
