Bargain front sight tool

Boys, I am just passing this along, a good deal I thought.
I ordered an new set of sights and a front sight tool, which
turned out to be a piece of junk(the tool), which stripped out.
In researching a better Glock front sight tool, I had an idea to
check hobby shops and electronic stores for a thin walled
3/16" nut driver. I found these.
I ordered one and received it today, I tried it on 2 different
Glocks with the front sight screw and it fit perfectly and turned
them no problem.
These are steel, made in Germany, and are guaranteed.
Even with shipping, mine came to $8.33, delivered.
Best deal I've found in a while.
Just in case anyone is in the market, or needs one.

Glockmeister charges $28 (with shipping included) for their Front Sight Tool and it doesn't look nearly as sturdy as this Wiha tool. Thanks for passing along this great alternative.

Or, get a hex-drive socket (the kind that fits a magnetic multitip screwdriver), chuck it in a drill, turn on the bench grinder, smooth off the front face, and then run it sideways to thin the walls down as much as needed. Picture available if you want it . . .

I'm not sure that Amazon tool will fit through the tiny hole in a G17L, G24, G34 or G35.

Danny is right..
I had to make up a special thin socket bit for my 17L..
I made it up by taking a 3/16" hex socket from a screw driver set & chucking it in a drill & then grinding it down with a dremel as it spun, took about 30 minutes total..
I even cut a small piece of refrigerator magnet to go inside to help hold the screw while installing..

Sorry fellas, I did not know they would sell out that fast.
They may put some more up at that price.
From my invoice, I looked the home site up and found the
same ones, the shipping is just a couple of bucks higher,
but is USPS insured First Class. Part # 26576.

They are still $5.65, but the shipping to GA is $5.75, which
comes to $11.40, mine was $8.33 total through Amazon.
Still not a bad deal, but you'll have to decide.
I don't know about fitting through the hole on the longslide,
I measured the thickest part of the socket on mine and it
measured .277".
Great idea Sig, putting the piece of magnet in the socket,
I have some of the thin flexible strip magnet that I bought
at Lowe's in the hardware section. I'll sure try that.
Anyways I'll keep my eyes open. Good luck to all.

Can't seem to find the WIHA tools#26576 nut driver anywhere. Places that do stock it what way too much for shipping and amazon is sold out. I did find amazon had the WIHA #26547 in stock. Will the 26547 work just as well? Both are 3/16''x60mm nut drivers. Is there a difference? Don't feel like ordering the wrong tool for the job. Thanks.

Just called WIHA tools. They said the part#26576 and #26547 are identical with the exception on the handle. One has a tacky rubberized handle , the other has smooth plastic handle. Amazon has the Wiha#26547 in stock for $7.10 shipped. It shows low stock, so get a move on if you need one of these.

Had to replace my older Glock 22 slide with a more recently manufactured one and in order to replace the XS standard dot I pulled out the 'tool' that was originally supplied with it to remove the Glock Factory front sight on the new slide. Interesting. The 'screw' (bolt) was set so far forward on the new slide that I couldn't get the XS tool to fit it?

Anyhoo. After much frustration, due to the fact that you need a damn strong thin walled socket to fit the thing, I did what a few others have done. Down to your local hardware store, buy a deep 1/4" drive socket of appropriate size, sit at the bench grinder for a few minutes and thin the tip down and after about three minutes I had a tool strong enough to dismantle a tank and yet still get at the screw on the front sight.

$3.50 total cost.

lowflyer, thanks for finding the alternative brand Wera 3/16" nut driver and posting it at Glock Talk.

Once the word got out that the Wiha 3/16" nut driver (#26576) worked perfectly as a Glock front sight tool, it sold out and has been unavailable for weeks it seems.

Yeah, I noticed the other alternatives were sold out.

I just got the Wera one and it works perfectly. It will also fit through the hole in the long slides. Another search term to use for these that I was previously unfamiliar with is 'precision nutspinner'.

For the rear sight, I picked up a brass drift punch and hammer set from Lyman for $16 on Amazon. It also works well and is non-marring.

Yep, $10 looks like about the going rate for one of these. I have a Prime account, so I got it for right at about $9 shipped.
