Hangup in G22 mag.

Visited Siberian (no lie) Rod & Gun Club today (an outdoor range) and the weather was sunny but temperature was at or below 0 F.

With UMC flatnosed FMJ ammo, one of my mags (which was loaded to full 15 round capacity) was not releasing the shells. On closer inspection, I found that the rounds were stuck with nose angled downward a bit into the mag and were hanging up on the upper front edge of the mag. No amount of thumb pressure on the shell could make it slide out of the mag because it was caught behind the front edge.

I found that holding the mag vertically and giving the floor plate a good solid rap on the table DID reset the ammo into the correct position, but it hung up several times, and had never done this before.

When I got home and reloaded the magazine the bullets lined up fine.

-Has anyone had a similar experience?

-Could it be that the frigid temperature had anything to do with the problem?

That is crazy cold, especially for a FL person! It doesn't seem like cold, alone, would do that, but then I've never shot in those conditions... Do you slap the rear of the mag against your palm to "seat" the rounds before inserting it in the weapon?

Not usually, but that'sessentially what I did on the table at the range. They did chamber OK after that.

My Dealer/coach/armorer also suggested that the mag may have gotten dirty, and needs to be disassembled and cleaned. Guess it's time to break out that new awl and learn a new skill on the Glock.

(I didn't have an "armorer's tool" so stopped at the hardware store and bought a cheap awl for working on the Glock. So far AWL I've done is disassemble and clean the striker mechanism)

(Here goes nuthin'.)
