How do you know if you're a true "Gun Snob"?

I do, or have, owned many different kinds, calibers and makes of pistols over my 45 years of life, and have found many that I truly liked and thought highly of. The problem is that I seem to be a 1911 guy at heart and no matter how much I've liked the others, whether wheelguns or semi's, I just feel that they're "beneath" the higher end 1911's in the safe. Am I a gun snob? I don't (hardly) ever put down someone elses opinion on which weapon is better, and I don't try to change peoples minds on that point, as I view it as a personal decision, but I do always feel that the only reason they feel differently from me is that they haven't handled the "right" 1911.
Am I a gun snob? Where is the line? Am I the only one who feels this way? Will Hokie ever get over his secret addiction to pink Glocks? Enquiring minds want to know!

It's easy to do we all want to think are decisions (guns) are the best and tend to snobbish about them even though we don't think we are guilty, I know i have been guilty even though I try hard not to be . You see a lot on forums it brings it out even in people that wouldn't be that way to close friends And by the way you are right the 1911 is the best especially if it's one I own, ha ha just kidding

One Sarge to another, nope! Back when Uncle Sam gave me a 1911 I fell in love and the affair never stopped. Started as a cop in 1975 and carried one then and still carry one now. It is the one I shoot better than anything else, feels better in my hand than anything else, I can add/delete featured at will, has the best "pointability" factor in my book. Yes, I have other guns, like Glocks, SIGS, revolvers, but a 1911 in my hand is the most accurate weapon I have. Take all the rest away but leave me a 1911 and I'm good to go on duty or off.

It was Spiderman, not pink....tyvm. I am thinking of giving my Kobra Carry the same paintjob.

You're just a hater because you can't make cool Spiderman grips with all of your fancy woods.

I don't think your a gun snob. There are all kinds of snobs out there though. There is the "My 1911 is a $3000 custom gun so its better than whatever you have" snob. There is also the "My $500 Glock is better than your $3000 1911" snob. You also have some 1911 fans that get away with trashing the glock pistol on here, while anyone who brings up something negative about the 1911 will get bashed HARD. That is a little bit snobby in my opinion. I think most people on here are not snobs, as we don't have alot of them in the gun culture. Most are very helpful to the constant flow of new people on here and continue to give solid advice to the same "noob" (I HATE that term) questions, which is the opposite of being a snob.

that's reverse discrimination. most people that object to the flat trigger state that it's ugly, but then they haven't even shot a flat trigger. so those are the people that are gun snobs

I've never until now seen a molestache with a fu. That's scary stuff......

Glad to hear that there are others in the same boat. BGPD pretty much captured my thoughts on it. The diversity, the ability to change it, the feel, the accuracy, these are all tings I love about the 1911 that I don't quite get from others. Thanks for the replies.

To me a gun snob is some one who thinks their favorite gun is the only thing worth using or owning.

Like the poster above said about a Glock shooter that like to point out their gun is better because you can buy X number of Glocks for the price of 1911. Or that their gun is more reliable than a 1911. Or that it holds more ammo.

The flip side is the 1911 owner who either does not think a Glock (or any other gun) is as good as a 1911 or that unless you have a 1911 made by a name brand gunsmith your 1911 is trash or not worthy. Or they go into how superior the ergonomics of the 1911 is versus whatever gun.

A gun snob can also be found in other areas of the shooting sports. How many people have ben put down because they show up at the trap range with an 870 Express or a Mossbrg 500? How many people act like an AR must shoot 1 MOA or less or it's crap?

As far as I am concerned it is all crap. I have many different guns. And I use them for different reasons. I have a G17 that has been loaded for the last two years. I think I have lubed it once in that time. I shot it once somewhere between 6 months and a year ago. It still goes bang. It is perfect for that. I have a customized Colt that is incredibly accurate. If I make sure it is either cleaned or lubed it will function fine. I really only use it for punching holes in paper these days. I carry a Colt 1991A1 on duty that is nice and worn. It is also reliable as any firearm I have ever owned.

I will probably be the last person to slam someone's choice as long as they understand what they are buying. For example don't buy a rifle from Walmart and expect to get great groups at 1,000 yards.

CAcop, You are sooo right. It has never been about the gun. Its been about who's behind it. The guy who buys his gun has to justify the purchase buy spouting the rhetoric. Once the bell rings and the ball goes up I want the one gun I am most proficient with, most comfortable with. Sans that one, well just give me a damn gun and let my training and practice do the rest.
