A full video review of the SCAR 17S
Hey all, I thought I would share my review of the SCAR 17s. I include some accuracy testing as well.
<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/k0lwxHUiTcw" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Now if only I had $3,000 to drop on a black rifle. *sigh*
Thanks for the review!

I shot the SCAR 17 at Shot Show at I agree its a MUST have for anyone wanting a 308 battle rifle with great ergonomics and great recoil management. As usual awesome video.

I don't have any use for one in 5.56, but I'd love one in .308! Pricey though.

I hate you... I want one of those so bad. At that price point though its pretty much a show stopper no matter how good it is or what it can do

I like POF's P308's better. And its less expensive.

A thoroughly tested, extremely reliable, 1 MOA semi-auto rifle just isn't going to be cheap. Even decent AR-10 pattern rifles are expensive, and the basic design has been around for a long time.

I've had other shooters bring 4 different POF rifles to classes I've taken. Only one worked correctly. No thanks.
My SCAR 16 and my SCAR 17 have both been flawless. I highly recommend them.
To the OP, nice video.

I don't like that it uses proprietary magazines. I wouldn't count on Magpul making Pmags for it either.

^I didn't think they'd make iPhone cases either.
They already make and market parts for the SCAR rifles, so I could see it happening.
Proprietary mags are the fail though...perhaps all former designs were inferior.

No, but C Products is making 25 round mags for the 17s. I bought two to test them, and they are working perfectly so far. I'll be ordering more.

Nice black rifle, even though it isn't "THE Black Rifle."

1 in 12 twist 16" barrel is interesting. Would be interested in what it does with your 168gr and m118 heavier bullets at some longer ranges.

I decided to give the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 a try. They're new comers to the long range scope market but they have a great lifetime warranty and I've yet to find a bad review of them. Everyone says they're worth twice as much as they sell for. I paid $699 with shipping from Optics Planet. I will mount it via a Larue 104 quick detach mount.
I'm an old Leupold fan and I've also been a fan of Nightforce... I gave them a try when they were relative new comers years ago and they turned out to be top of the line. I'm hoping Vortex follows a similar path.
The PST has a zero stop and illuminated reticule which are features on scopes costing much more than I paid.
I'll let you guys know how the scope works out and how the SCAR shoots with proper glass on it.

The glass is good and adjustments are repeatable. The only complaint I have is that the three I tried two years ago were all a bit sensitive to eye position, and there was some parallax induced wandering of poi. Might be better now, but it's something to watch for.

I was under the impression that the rifle accepted the Knights/DPMS type magazines. Am I wrong?

I don't believe so. The 17S mags are unique to the SCAR.

Glad I didn't buy.

Thanks for your review, was wondering if you have any updates on shooting the scar 17 with vortex?

The only update I have on the Vortex is that they're horribly back ordered everywhere and it may take me up to 3 months to get one. Maybe more.
For that reason I'm considering other optics options.

You're cheating yourself out of a fantastic rifle for no reason. If you like C Products mags and want 25 rounders, buy them. If you prefer factory 20rd mags, buy them. Both are not that hard to find anymore, though you may have to watch gunbroker for the factory originals until the distributors get fully stocked. I've seen dozens sell on Gunbroker though, so they are shipping.
