many years ago i bought a colt ar15 [1994] and haven't shot it alot. when i did i used the 20 round colt mags. when i bought the gun i also bought a dozen 30rnd mags. empty they seat ok but loaded they seem really hard to seat, i really have to smack the bottom of the mag. i also just bought some dpms mags [30rnd] and they are the same way. is this normal? it just dosen't seem there would be that much spring preasure to make them that hard to seat but i could be wrong.
You are pushing the top cartridge into the bottom of the carrier, most load full then remove one cartridge. Try pulling the carrier back and locking it, insert the mag then trip the bolt release, it may be easier.
thank you. i just wanted to make sure i didn't have a problem i wasn't aware of. what i was doing was to keep a loaded mag in the gun with an unloaded chamber to keep ready. i now understand with your statement why i never had this problem, anytime i loaded before it it was to shoot. i always did load it with an open chamber then charged it once the mag was inserted.
