Springfield GI Champion??

Is the slide on the Champion cut for a bushing? Wondering if the bull barrel could be replaced with a true commander barrel/bushing set up?

IIRC it was cut for a bushing, at least mine was.

you can't swap it for a commander (4.25") barrel/bushing.

So it's cut for a bushing, but a commander barrel bushing wouldn't work...?

nope. a Commander is 0.25" longer than the Champion 4" barrel, so if you did that, the 4.25" barrel/bushing won't be locked up properly.

do you have a ramped or non-ramped barrel. if you have a non-ramped barrel, Wilson has a replacement barrel on clearance for $99.

I don't have the gun, know where I can get a good deal and thinking about getting it as a base gun, but i would prefer a bushing set up.

Yeah i know some of the older one's had bushing's, just not lately. The Wilson barrel looks like a good option though.

yep, but that was an older one. older (pre-2000) Champion. My TRP Champion was pre-2000 and has a bull barrel.

the 5" GI's don't, but AFAIK, all of the Springfield Champions use a ramped bull barrel.

That first one sure qualifies as a "base gun", the second one is way over priced. I appreciate you looking them up though. I may get this one anyway and live with the ramped bull barrel. Do you know if these are one or two piece barrels?

I would assume it is the same barrel that my 2002 Compact has, it is 1 piece.
