9mm to 38 Super or 38 Super to 9mm?

I know they can be interchangeable, but can't remember if it's 38 to 9, or vice versa. About to send my 9mm Kimber in for some work and was wondering if I could have a Kart NM 38 Super barrel fitted for it. Been wanting a 38 Super for awhile, and figured this would be cheaper than a whole new gun. Whole new guns are great, but sometimes reality kicks in. You noticed that I used the word sometimes.

AFAIK, most guns can go either way these days. Check the rim of a .38 super for fit against your breech face. There was a time when some slide manufacturers made 9mm specific slides, but most today offer one slide for both. Ejectors and extractors sometimes come into play, but a good smith can tune them to handle both (unless a scope mount is involved, then it becomes trickier).

Just to make sure I would go 38 Super to 9mm. Not to mention once you start shooting 38 super, you will realize you don't need 9mm anymore.

+1 for .38 Super!! Gotta love 1,475 fps out of a 5" 1911 (124g GDHP). I am getting 1,380 out of my 4" Wilson. That is getting into 357 Sig velocities with softer recoil.

See, that's the kinda crap that has me wanting to get into a 38 Super.

Yep, the Super is great, every collection needs at least one.

When Chuck did my 9mm Mil-spec, he suggested I go with a ramped barrel . He said it would be easier to have 38 super or 9x23 barrels fit later if I wanted. So if your talking about the Target II you are sending to him , I would say you would not have a problem with getting the super barrel fit.

I was going to do the same thing, but I have no use for a 9mm 1911 now. I love my super. No recoil, accurate, just plain fun to shoot. I do reload my own super ammo though.

as I got her

Even with reloading, the brass is expensive. If you shoot matches, you'll loose some, and if you shoot big matches, you'll likely not be able to pick up any brass. Otherwise, I would go super over 9mm too.

Shooting a match or not wouldn't stop me from owning one. I have other pistols I can shoot in a match with.

That's the one I'm sending him. Gonna be pretty slick when he's done.

No. Joe just has dumb hands that seem to reach into those pockets more than they should.

And if you didn't, that's the beauty of multiple barrels.

Started life as a 9mm lightweight. Shot the frame from under it. Now sporting a Caspian steel frame. Have a Super .38 barrel, mags, recoil spring and switch back and forth at will with no issues. Also my EDC more often than not
