Mosin Nagant vs. British Enfield....

I have an opportunity to buy a Mosin Nagant for $100, or a British Enfield with 400 rounds of ammo for $175. Any advice? Both are in 80-90% condition.

Is the Enfield a No. 1 Mk III or a No. 4 Mk I?

If it's a No. 4, I'd definitely go for the Enfield.

One more for the SMLE.

The closest rifle is not an Enfield. It's a Remington US 1917 30-06

I have 4 enfields and 26 mosins. I like em both.

The enfield is more refined, but the ammo is pricier.

Most people would instinctively say buy the enfield, but i would want to look at the markings of the mosin. Some of my mosins would bring $500 or more, so it will pay off to know what you are looking at.

if both guns are in great shape (not sporterized), and it is a run of the mill mosin. (if you can send marks of the barrel markings i can help you determine that) then you are better off with the enfield deal.

That is unless you plan on shooting it a lot.

762x54r can be had for under $100 for 440rds, 303 brit is considerably more.

Enfields are sweet shooters but expensive to feed. More refined than the Mosin. The Mosin is a good shooter too, less ergonomic, longer. With the Mosin, you get the feeling that beating a bear to death with it won't shift your POI.

Mine too. My wife's M44 is loads of fun to shoot, but the extra round count in the Enfield and the amazing feel of the bolt seal the deal for me.

I'd have to go with the Enfield too. I've owned both, it's just a better gun.

I think you're looking at someone else's pics. I haven't posted my collection in a very long time.
