Congratulations! You're fired!
Cleveland OH PD just graduated 41 recruits from their police academy.
And in the same ceremony, laid them all off.

I will say that they knew it was coming, and it was decent of Cleveland to let them finish the academy and get state certified; at least now some will be able to find jobs.

That was mighty nice of them. A few years back, Detroit pulled the same stunt, only 2 weeks from graduation, supposedly after the licensing test, and wouldn't let them finish and get their certification. Sad state of affairs we're in...

Not that I'm even remotely offended, and I guess it's on me for messaging within a thread (albeit one I started), but Meredith is my wife, *******.

Yes, at least they let them graduate.
Perhaps Cleveland will rehire some of them when their economic status changes.

The one small thing that they let them do was finish up. What and end to academy.

Could those laid off become reserve police officers until they get hired full time somewhere?
Don't they have to go through some type of field training?

Columbus had the same thing happen not too long ago. However, my high school girlfriend told me she was going to start their academy a couple of weeks ago, so I am hoping they have their finances under control.

The only good thing is they allowed them to finish. But what a crappy way to end an academy. All the hard work and now you have to go find another job.

Yeah, they are OPOTA certified so they can work anywhere in the state as reserve or full time... and if they are hired anywhere yeah, they would have to go through FTO.

I hope those 42 have first dibs when the PD starts to hire again. Officers will quit, get fired, retire and at a point slots will need to be filled.
Sucks that we waste so much money at the Fed level, when the States and Citys must scrape to get by, and they really need the officers.

Minneapolis did this a year or so ago, graduated a school and laid them off. I am not in the loop, but last I heard, they had not hired them back.

Hopefully when the economy gets better they will be at the top of the list to be re-hired.
My guess is they are just gonna wait until more money is freed up and they can work again.
