First Springfield. First base specifically for a project.

Traded a .22lr and a few bucks for this Mil Spec this weekend. NM serial number. Guessing it's an older one. I spoke to the previous owner and he said it had approximately 400 rounds through it. He traded it for a Range Officer.

Anyways, it's a project gun. My first. Going to try my hand at it a bit. Nothing major, just a bit of freshening up. Simple sights, refinish, internals, etc. Everything I've read is that the smiths prefer to work on the NM Springfield's if they can't have Colts. So, this one came along reasonably and I snatched it up.

So, I've got a list started for a parts order. For you builders out there: For an ignition parts kit, EGW or Harrison?
Thumb safety preference? Smaller is better but bigger than stock.
Slide stop preference?
Pin set preference?

I'm guessing lots of this is just personal preference, but thought I'd ask anyways.

That is a very good base gun.

You ever thought of molesting a Rock Island or something before you started on a NM Mil-Spec?

Yes, thought of an RIA first. We'll see. I've got plenty of time and won't be rushing anything. Nothing major anyways.

Thanks for the replies. I've got to add, I forgot that I have had a Springfield before, but not for many years. So, I guess it isn't really my first one.

This will be a project for my nephew someday. Long story behind it, but needless to say, he won't be getting it for, oh 20ish years or so.
