And a scroungin' we will go!
Well fellas, I went on my first lead hunt today, couldn't find a better way to piss the morning away. After going all across town, and hitting up every last tire shop at the Lake, This is what I came up with:
I know, pretty friggin' pathetic! 
Thank the Good Lord that the tiniest little ol' tire shop in my little bitty town gave me this:
Feels like about 30-40 pounds worth!  It's a start, now I gotta get me a 4-ingot mold, and a good heat source.
Jack shoulda warned you guys that you're gunna see more of me.... 
And yes, I'm a flatlander living in hillbilly hell.

One reaps the rewards of the life they have lived... I'm amazed they didn't give you a small piece of reclaimed lead at velocity.
Perhaps you're more suited for the highly technical art of collecting empty beer and energy drink cans... no human interaction is required.

Too-shay! But screwit, I'm a little ways off from being properly equipped, so I figgered I'd start stocking up. I wanna do one of those marathon smelting sessions like you do, and hopefully run the wife off in the process! I just plan for her to come back....
I also got some boric acid flux, and a handy dandy 8" cast iron skillet, and am looking at a turkey fryer. Cut a rookie some slack, Jack!

The use of the term already implies that we wanted you here to begin with. Sometimes assumptions can be so embarrassing.
Then again, a lot of forum members may be gainfully employed, (a concept that may be unfamiliar to you) and are unable to peruse the pages of GTR until they return to their abode.
Then again everyone may just be ignoring you.

Damn... in talking with these old tire heads, I found a smokin' deal on V for you Jack, but with as many as you have had (birthdays), what good is an early birthday present? Bucket for bucket, even.

Just think, here soon, everyones lead source is gonna dry up... Have to find another source, which might be difficult. I'd love to cast, but I just can't justify the cost, considering I don't think lead is gonna be all that easy to come by here in about 3yrs or so.

Doesn't look like MO is on the chopping block, yet. However I "missed out" and they were all picked up "yesterday". I had to see how stingy they were myself. The guy I scored from already had the bagged and ready by the door for me to pick up. Not an everyday thing, I take it?

Lead will always be available, just not as cheaply as before, pretty much like everything else.  Lead wheel wts will be a thing of the past in less than 3yrs. States are banning htem new cars are sold w/o them, sooner than later they'll be gone. There is always scrap lead, commercial smelted lead, reclaimed lead shot, stainglass wire, sail boat keel, fishing wts, dive wts, old roofing & plumbing lead, x-ray shielding, etc. Of course you can always berm mine. If you have to buy lead, anything more than about $1.5/#, it's not worth casting IMO.
