We have heard May 1st. for this increase. Is it related to fuel prices? I haven't heard a particular reason.
Everything is going up. I bought a coffee the other day and it was up about
four dollars from a year or so ago. I often wonder how average families make ends meet.
My thoughts are currently on fishing. Does anyone else like to fish? I have seen one pic on here somewhere of Zonny with a nice string of trout. If my elbows will behave I would like to learn how to fly fish. My SO is very good at it and can hopefully teach me.

Fishing? No way.
Hunting? No way.
I have *no* patience for the sit and wait aspect.
Happy Easter

Do you like being on the water? Do you like the sun?
I tan easily so I love the sun. You could cast, put the rod in a rod holder and
work on your jewelery.
I've been hearing about vitamin D deficiency lately. I wonder if it's because folks stay indoors more.

I wanted to go fishing this weekend but the wind was too heavy to do so.
I've about had it with wind and rain. I need a break from it.

Promise not to delete your posts? I don't know if I'm alone here, but I think it's frustrating to go back and reread a thread and find a bunch of the posts deleted. Makes it hard to track the conversation.

I got another Delta at a show about 3 weeks ago. I haven't yet had the opportunity to shoot it. Everyone's too nervous about sparking off another wildfire--maybe I can fire a few rounds for a function test today while it's still wet, assuming that it's not sacrilegious to shoot on Easter. Hello yourself! I hope you and yours had a great Easter. Mine was just another day in Paradise, but at least we didn't have any wildfires to worry about. We did have to dodge a couple rockets, but that's not unusual.
And Hey, if you're going to shoot something why not shoot the Easter Bunny? They taste good. That and if you're shooting him, you're not shooting at me!
Thank you and take care of yourself, too.

As far as the deer are concerned...they have pretty regular habits, so it's just a matter of seeing one as it's passing through the property (i.e., with enough time to grab a rifle). So not really a waiting game, sometimes; see cocktail story below....
One of my favorite cocktail stories: I remember one time, being awakened by an extremely loud shot. I rolled out of bed onto the floor, grabbed a revolver out of the night-stand, and scuttled out of the bedroom so I could see what was happening. Just my spouse harvesting a deer that was on the backside of the property---through the opened sliding-glass door (: upeyes: ).
S000...no waiting, sometimes; just a matter of sufficient opportunity. [Again, I've never done it myself, but I've seen/heard (:whistling : ) it done.]--Patrice

At least I know now I'm not the only one who's done that. Many years ago I saw a doe nibbling the last remaining leaves on a sapling maple I'd planted near my dining room window. I sneaked the window open, put on ear muffs, and put the rifle up to the screen to keep the hole as small as possible. I had venison all winter from her.

I used to like going fishing with my family when I was growing up, but I haven't been as an adult. Really, the only fish I like now come from Captain D's and I wouldn't really say those are fish...mostly batter and grease. Maybe I saw my grandmother nail too many fish to a tree and skin/scale/gut them.
Hunting, I think I could get into if I ever needed meat and it wasn't available at a store.

I've also stuck a rifle out a window but I was trying to nail a groundhog at the greenhouse. He'd ate over $250 in plants the night before. He never came out where I could get a shot at him though.
I took a book and several bottles of water out one day and waited for another groundhog. I just about went crazy waiting for him. He finally showed up and I got him. I hated to do it but he had no qualms about eating our garden. We tried to trap him for a week without any luck...
We play D&D or Nightbane with friends every weekend. Almost every weekend we'll see deer everywhere on their land. A few weeks ago there was three little guys with lots of spots
I could maille. I've spent a couple hours tonight working on an oder and about went crazy. I'm not sure doing something that can drive me nuts while doing another thing that I think may drive me crazy is such a good idea

SouthernGal what do you fish for? Do you enjoy it?
MK, our daddies who said you have to be quiet while fishing made that up so we would be quiet. Wrencher and I have great talks while fishing. We often see eagles, hawks, deer, turtles etc...we pack a lunch of cold chicken or smoked fish, crusty bread, cheese, fruit...maybe a little wine or a couple of beers each. We aren't big drinkers out there because one of us has to drive and pull the boat home.
It's not like when you were little had to be quiet, eating potted meat on a cracker. And of course there's the sun. We've hired a guide for eight hours in
May. We fish a federally protected river, and want to learn more about it.
It's a beautiful way to spend a day. My boat has a great stereo,so I bring tunes. I think you need a new fishing experience.
I might as well confess, once in a while we don't check the bait and take a nap in the sun. I'm pleased to say we have always come home with dinner.

I really like going to a lake where the brim are large and are biting. I know the pond where I took the guys out shooting is just teeming with large brim but it's done nothing but RAIN here for the last few days and they are saying we'll get more today AND tomorrow! Brim are especially "fun" fish to catch as they fight alot for their small size.
The guy down the street has had a lot of luck here lately catching crappie and they are good eating as well (when you can get them).

Crappies are our standby. We can usually find them. What's called brim in the south are called sunnies up here. They are fun to catch. Wrencher catches them on a fly rod. I have a seven foot ultra light that I catch them on and it feels like a shark!
We also fish for walleye and northern pike. I hope to smoke some pike this summer.
There isn't anything any better tasting than a plate of fried brim/sunnies, cole slaw, potatoes and hushpuppies! We take the time and fillet the little things out.

We call those Sunfish or Sun Perch. We have them as well as Bluegill (commonly called brim in these parts). I can't really taste a difference in the two once they're filleted.
We've got bass in the lake too but most of the time we'll toss them back since they can get quite large. It's very good eating but on a private lake or pond we tend to throw them back.

I'm too much of a girly girl to touch fish or bait a hook (maybe I should try gloves?).
Aside from that, I really enjoy fishing and/or hunting with my partner in crime or friends.
280z puts it best - "Don't go hunting if you want to (actually) go shooting."
Edit: Here's a (long) read about my first attempts at fishing. Bear with my ignorance and stupidity please, I actually did catch a fish!

Crappies are really good filleted and fried, too. I don't remember what Brim tastes like. Bass are always good, and a blast to catch on a fly rod.

You're just a little mystery. You've posted about working hard, shooting,
your avatar is the bike...and you live in the land of lakes! I remember that pretty funny thread.

I think those little fish all taste basically the same. Early large mouth taste ok. Later they get fishy. Small mouth are a wonderful game fish.

Are you joking? Around here we like to catch our own bait before we put it on the hook (still squirming of course).

When I was a little girl and it came a big rain I would go outside with my Dad and catch night crawlers with a flashlight. I still fish with worms. I use wax worms for small pan fish, red worms or crawlers for bass, leeches for walleye, and big sucker minnows for northern pike.
SouthernGal I hope the water is still in the lakes and rivers down there. You folks are on my mind and in my prayers.
Welcome 1200feather.
