Easter Present for the FCD lovers.
Some of you may remember that I accidentally loaded 100 or so rds of my over sized lead bullets with a FCD while using my friends 1050. So I set them aside and promised I would try them out later.
Here is a picture of how they sit in the FCD
Here is a picture of how a normal 124 gr MG sits in the die.
Clearly, the FCD is not going to do anything to the MG in that situation.
So I tested them on out and surprise! surprise! surprise! Nothing horrible happened. They did seem to lead a little more but not horrible. What little difference I saw disappeared once I shot some of my non-fcd loaded rounds. I didn't test them for accuracy on paper but I did spray the 8"rd plate I was shooting at to see how the group looked. It wasn't great but it was windy and I was shooting standing. Hardly conclusive. You guys can commence giving me grief now if you like.

Grief about what? That the world didn't end if you used an FCD. Some of us were pretty sure that it wouldn't.

I am pretty sure that it's my skill as a caster that kept anything bad from happening.

This was my test w/ the 45acp & the LFCD:
Conclusive, no, except for the plated bullets. It would lead me to believe that softer cast bullets would behave sim. I did shoot another test another day, sim results. So no LFCD for me thanks. I have managed for a lot of rounds over a lot of years w/o one.

Maybe its my bad eyes Fred but it is very hard to read what you wrote on those targets.

Yeah, they didn't scan well. The left is 200gr Berry's FP, the right is 200grLTC that I cast. Left targets are taper crimp, right are LFCD. The group sizes run 1 1/8" at te smallest to 1 5/8" at the largest.
Both shot same day, 15yds benched. I wasn't happy w/ the accuracy of the LTC, my 200grLSWC cut that by half.

Don't get me wrong. I would never use one on purpose. It did cause more leading. It's not as good. But it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.

It's your superior cast bullets making the diff.

CNN is reporting that the fires were caused by the FCD. I think they're wrong, my guess is an overheated Load Master.

Well yeah; FCD = Fire creating Device, what else would you expect? Just look here when ever someone brings it up. I can feel the temps rising thru my monitor.

I use the LFC die for all my handgun loads. I guess my experience is different than many of yours. I do not cast my own bullets yet, so for right now I'm shooting Missouri Bullet 200gr LSWC in my 45s. The carbide ring on my 45 LFC die only make the slightest contact with the flare and I cannot feel it contacting or sizing the bullet down. My 40/10mm die was quite different, it seemed like it was resizing even jacketed bullets, I sent it back to Lee and had them open it up .001 and now it works like my 45 die, minimal if any contact.
21 yards benched.

Thats interesting. My 10mm die was doing the same thing. Everyone said I was nuts.
