Dropbox

I never thought I would do this...

I'm whoring for extra Dropbox storage space for a project I'm working on.

DB is a free and secure cloud based file sharing service. Basically it allows you to access whatever files you see fit, wherever you are via smart phone or computer.

Anyways, if you sign up with the below link you'll get 2GB of free storage and I'll also get a little extra for my account.

http://db.tt/zoQX86O

If you don't trust my link just google "Dropbox".

It really is a great service that you should check out even if you don't use my referral link.

Take care everyone,
btmar

Well there you go.

Just realized that I can share my DB to give some large files to my former neighbors, now in Aus.

I signed up for you... I was already thinking of checking it out, so now you pushed me over the edge.

Edit #2: Ignore edit #1, it was a user error.

Edit #1: Okay, now I can't get this to work... Anyways, the following is true for USB thumb drives. I'll report back when I figure out the problem.

Thanks guys!

I forgot to mention that you can install portable apps to your Dropbox account. I currently have Firefox portable installed on my account. It enables you to securely save passwords to the app while also providing all your bookmarks from your main computer by using Firefox sync.

I just checked my Dropbox account and I got 250mb of referral credit for using your link... I was thinking that you would get the credit, did it show on your end?

It's be great if everyone that joins off of a referral link gets the credit as well as the person that refers them.

Good luck with your project.

Yes sir, it added the 250mb to mine as well.

If you have a .edu email address you can link it here for an extra 250mb for each referral you receive.

Bump for edit to post #4.

Running apps from Dropbox does in fact work. My issue was a user error.

Well, crap. Didn't mean to step on your toes. I probably should have posted in the tech section, and then I would have seen your post. Sorry about that.

Out of curiosity, did your idea for your original post come from that Lifehacker article? (Mine did, although I love talking about Dropbox to anyone who will listen, even if it doesn't mean a referral. I just think it's a great service.) Otherwise, what a strange coincidence that we would both, within a few hours of each other, throw up nearly identical posts.

Don't worry about it!

I just thought it was crazy that we posted basically the same thing within a few hours of each other! It's not very often you see Dropbox mentioned on a gun forum.

Yes and no. I had been planning on posting this for a long time, so the Lifehacker article combined with a project I'm working on pushed me over the edge.

I love Lifehacker BTW, I just can't stand it's big liberal brother Gizmodo...

It's a good service. I've been using it lightly for a while now. I find an easy way to sync pictures taken with my phone and tablet to my notebook.

I have been using it for the same reason. Plus, it makes it easy to send large files to friends once you share a folder. I'm hooked.

drop box is amazing. I stumbled upon it sometime last year. It's been a godsend to distribute files between my home workstation, my work workstation, my fathers various computers at home and while he travels, and then on top of that the iPhone apps work great for flying and needing access to files. I'm always pimping them out and mentioning @dropbox in my tweets

the 2 GB is more than enough for us, and it's free.

ridiculous.

Don't forget the iPhone/iPad app! Also, it does version control for you on docs!

Good stuff!

+1

Not a bad deal when you have co-workers who are on a business trip and need a large file. It can be a lifesaver.

it's ridiculous how fast it can sync up files on both ends, or multiple ends.

I love Dropbox (sorry, already have an account). I use it to deploy stuff to my webserver... makes updating websites much easier. I personally don't leave a ton of stuff sitting in it, so the basic free account is more than enough for me.

I use it. It is nice because I can share out my files to my assistant, but keep certain directories private.

I love the Android version. Just a couple clicks and I can send anything from my phone.

how much does it give you when you sign up under normal circumstances?

2gb. More than enough for me. I'm only using 5.4% of my free quota. I personally don't use it as a working folder because of the ease in which things are deleted remotely. Would be very bad mojo if the account, or an attached PC or device got compromised.
