Regular Practice with P3AT

How many of you regularly practice with your P3AT? How are they holding up with extensive usage? I've had mine since 2004 and, unfortunately, I do not practice enough with it. It does have over 1,000 rounds through it and is running fine.

I shoot mine occasinally. In fact I just fired it last weekend.
Love the light weight but not the thumb chafing.
I fired my friend's LCP and liked the "feel" a little better than mine.

Mine has an occasional failure to feed or extract. Not very often, but it happens enough that this is what I carry in my Nemesis holster when
"I'm not carrying a gun".
I've done the fluff and buff but I believe this particular weapon pushes
the limits of physics on being powerful but ultralight. I wish now I would have purchased the .32 model.

Glad to hear yours is purring along. Sounds like you got a good one.

Yeah, it is a little fireball. I have used mine a couple of times in IDPA "BUG" matches. Didn't do too bad.

Between my first generation and my second generation I've got well in excess of 4K rounds on them. The first is over 3K the second is over 1k.

I've quit counting, but the first is still running strong. I've slowed up practicing some since the cost of ammo went through the roof, but I'm still very proficient with them. I do a lot of close range point shooting with it and other mouse pistols. At close range (under 5 yards) I'm not worried about sights.

I've put down a few moving four legged varmints at night with a P3AT (no laser sights either) so I'm pretty confident with my shooting ability and the P3AT.

Caver 60, glad to hear you have so many rounds through them. Wonder how many rounds they will go. Fine little pistol. I doubt i will ever get to the number of rounds you have, for the very reason you stated-.380 is too expensive. Maybe I'll start reloading the .380.

I can remember when I could get 1k of 380 ammo for close to a hundred bucks.

There was an old Kel Tec forum that's been defunct for several years, where I read about 10K or more rounds being shot through a P3AT.

Here's a primer on Point shooting.

http://www.spw-duf.info/point.html

Point shooting can be practiced with other pistols that shoot cheaper ammo, like 22's, especially if you're just beginning to learn.

Once you get proficient at it, you can then use a couple hundred rounds to perfect your P3AT ability. That shouldn't break the bank at about 75 bucks or so. I find my Kahrs are also natural point shooters, especially the 9mm Kahrs (I have two). There are many other pistols that point shoot very well like my Taurus Mil Pro PT145.

Of course as range increases you go for a more traditional sight picture as the referenced article states.

I have around 500 through mine and not having any major issues. The guide rod for the recoil spring has a few burr fragments as well as some parts of the frame which the barrel might be rubbing into. I figure this might be part of the break in process. I usually shoot 1 magazine a month through it to make sure its in good working order. Excluding a 2 day trip in Wisconsin this thing has been in my back pocket since the fall of 2009 when I got my permit. I never leave the house without it. Because of this I am worried about shooting it as much as my other guns. On the other hand....I've been thinking about buying a second one to just shoot and shoot and shoot. Or maybe keep an eye on this one and replace if I start to see signs of integrity lower and make this one a designated range gun. Either way, LOTS OF LOVE for the P3AT.
