Round nose bullets for reload, good idea?

At one time I carried ammo with full metal jackets in my spare mag(s). My thinking was, if I needed to reload because of jam, then fmj might give me a bit of an edge in getting gun up and running. Other situation would be if I ran dry and had to reload then might, just might, be because I needed to shoot through something and here again fmj may provide a bit of an edge.

However, after considering further I went back to jhp for spare mags, feeling slight edge in unusual circumstances were not sufficient to offset problem of firing fmj bullets in urban situation.

Now for revolver I can make a case, that the advantages of fmj SPARE ammo are greater than the downside. I am naturally thinking of the advantages provided by fmj ammo when reloading. The round nose just goes in easier than a jhp.

What are your feelings on the question of fmj ammo for reloads, especially in revolvers?

You can do better than ball for those purposes. In an auto, Hornady Critical Defense or CorBon Pow'rBall should give you the same feed profile as ball if you feel reliability has been compromised. In a revolver, the pointy nose of the Hornady Critical Defense round will actually speedload faster than round nose lead or FMJ.

best,
Mas
