something that bugs me about the top 3

I can't understand how brown, baer, and wilson can make such great and beautiful 1911s, but when it comes to making rifles(which all 3 make) they only offer tacticool models. Why is it that Kimber seems to be the only one to offer high end rifles with nice wood furniture?

Sorry I know its not technically 1911 related but it has been bugging the crap out of me for awhile now.

Different disciplines.

Kimber started out as a maker of fine bolt-action rifles. The 1911s came much later.

I have never considered Kimber to be a high end rifle. High priced, maybe, but not high end......I would take an upper end Sako or Weatherby over a Kimber any day of the week.....but of course, they don't build 1911's, either.

Wilson and Nighthawk make no bones about their field in firearms, combat and defense. As stated Brown made a number of hunting rifles but no longer does. Pity cause I did want a Brown rifle at some point. I agree that a blue/wood rifle is a thing of sweet beauty and the more folks making them the better IMO.

Kimber of America? You're right.

Kimber of Oregon? Different animals altogether.

wood

I don't really like plastic furniture on rifles, much prefer walnut & blue. However, synthetics do have their place. At a gun show I saw a quite expensive ($1000 ++) synthetic/stainless rifle take a tumble from off a two tier rack on to a concrete floor. I'm talking about a 5-6 foot drop and landing flat. The rifle had not a mark. A blue/wood rifle would probably have suffered hundreds in damage. They never look real good - but they never look real bad either.

I agree. I also think WC rifles are pathetically expensive for what they are.

I agree. I'm not dissing Kimber's rifles, but IMO, they are overpriced, for what you get.

What would be a good high end non-custom rifle?
