Hot Car
When you have to leave your pistol in the car in the summer, what effect does the extreme heat have on the ammo?

i would imagine most if not all ammo is made to some military standards. If you think military and the conditions our soldiers are exposed to...the hottest of the hot and coldest of the cold. You, your ammo, and your car should be safe. IMO

Your ammo will explode, and blow a hole through your car door...
(just kidding)....
No worries that I can think of. Cars get hot, but not amazingly hot. 120 or 130 degrees isn't that hot on an absolute scale. Humidity, on the other hand, could be an issue.

Think how hot the chamber of the barrel is when you fire off a bunch of rounds and a round just sits in that hot chamber.
No issues with car heat affecting the powder.

I put about a box of 357mags thought my 686 then I started doing double taps with it. Will after a few cylinders of that I got sloppy and placed my palm on the Cylinder. Needless to say it hurt it burned the crap out of my hand. I don't think a gun is gonna get hot enough in a car to physical burn you to the point of leaving a mark.

I leave my gun loaded in the car for months at a time in S.Florida where day time temps get to around 95-100 outside iam sure tops 120-130 in a car baking in the sun. I have never had an issue with any ammo left in the car. Been doing this for almost 3 years.

Your fine. I'm in south FLA too. I have used my temp gun & it reads as high as 160 on my dash on a Aug day. Interior was in the 150's. Trunk was in the 110's.
Your interior will melt before any gun or ammo damage will occur.

The temperature needed to "cook off" ammo is also high enough to completely liquefy all of the plastic interior trim panels in your car.

I would rotate my ammo now and then. If you are going to the range, shoot the stuff from the hot trunk, and replace it with new virgin ammo.

It might actually increase you velocity a few FPS. Even when ammo cooks off, it can't go anywhere without a barrel to send it down range.

Worry about your gun being stolen from your car, but do not worry about the ammunition.
