priming tool

my lee hand priming tool is wore out. does anybody here have the rcbs with universal shell holder. do you like it or is it better to go with rcbs that you have to use their shellholders. or other choices that are better.

I like the Hornady, uses a std ss press shell holder. Easy to swap shell holders. The old RCBS had too many small parts. I haven't used the new one.

I have an RCBS that uses the primer flipper as a feed magazine. It uses standard shellholders and works very well. It is comfortable to use. As Fred said, it has several small parts that are a bit of a PITA to deal with since you have to remove them to put the shellholder on and off. I only use it or 30-06 and just got an extra shellholder which I just leave on there.

I have my father's RCBS with the unviersal shellholder jaws. I haven't tried it because his model uses the plastic strips, which I couldn't find and am not interested in dealing with. I haven't used it without the strips because the primers are hard/impossible to put in one at a time.

Overall, I like to use the press mounted seater on my RCBS single stage. It's one at a time, but I just prime on the downstroke after depriming/sizing on the way up. This way I handle the brass one less time, which is more convenient. This is for low-volume stuff like 32ACP.

RCBS does make quality stuff that works well. I broke my original RCBS primer whan it was dropped on a concrete floor. I called RCBS and they mailed me a new one for free.

If you wish to prime on your press, I've found this one to be very simple and easy to use. This is the one I began reloading with (on a SS press) back in the early 80's. I still use this tool when loading small quantities of ammo that do not require the 550's production rate.

If you have a lot of cases to prime this is the best priming tool that I have found and used. For hand held primers I like the Hornady. You use your whole hand not just your thumb to prime. To me the RCBS ABS system is a waste of money and time.

The newer designed Lee is much improved. In fact I've been forgetting to order another one for LP.

I have the new style Lee and the RCBS hand primers. The RCBS is more robust and seems to be just plain easier to use not that the Lee is bad just the RCBS is better in my opinion.
Both brands use the same type shell holder.
Lee is less expensive and has two trays where the RCBS has one tray and different guide and ram.
