I can't remove my slide pin for the life of me. I have a punch set, hammer, and block but this pin will not budge. I remove the extractor and everything first but still nothing. I fear the pin my start to mushroom if I hit it any harder. Anyone know any solutions?

What model Sig?

Are you referring to the firing pin positioning pin?

If so, why do you want to remove it?

Do you have cup tip punches?

Which direction are you attempting to move the pin?

Why did you remove the extractor?

Its a P229. I am removing the initial pin to begin to strip the slide. I have a starter flat tip punch and a curved finishing punch. And it is from right to left.

Typically there's no reason to detail strip the slide unless you have a very high round count on it or the firing pin positioning pin has snapped due to extensive dry firing without snap caps.

Regardless, this Cup Tip Punch - 3mm (2 punch set) is designed specifically for drifting that pin.

High round count is the reason. I am the third owner (I think) and I alone have put 100s of rounds down the tube in the short time I have had it

100s (hundreds?) of rounds? That's an extremely low round count. Even if you think it's had 5000 total through it by now there's no reason to remove the solid slide pin.

According to Sig, the old style roll pins should be replaced at 5,000 rounds and the firing pin at 20,000. In my opinion, there is no reason to detail strip the slide until around 20,000 rounds or so (unless the pin breaks first).

I had the firing pin positioning pin snap on my 229 and didn't even know it until half of it started to wiggle free on the left side. I shot another few boxes of ammo that day before I replaced it that evening.
