40th Birthday Custom Delta Elite!

Since it's simultaneously the 100th birthday of Mr. John Browning's 1911 and the 40th birthday of deadite this year, I treated myself to something special. A stainless steel Colt Delta Elite in 10mm customized by the wonderfully talented Marianne Carniak!

1911 Forums

1911 Forums

This is one of the new series produced after 2008. Ms. Carniak has performed the following custom work:

--Wilson Combat beaver-tail grip safety, expertly and superbly blended and bead blasted to match the gun's finish.
--Wilson Combat extended thumb safety.

1911 Forums

--Videki trigger with trigger pull set to a crisp 3.75 lbs.

1911 Forums

--Smith & Alexander flat mainspring housing/mag-well fitted and blended to frame.

1911 Forums

--Tuned extractor.

This Delta is so sweet. I took her out today and ran some 10mm down range. I shot Double Tap(200gr FMJ-FP @1225 FPS) and some Hornady XTPs. The Double Tap led to, literally, one-ragged hole at 10 yards. The Hornady did ok, but not as well.

It has three 8 round mags that have been updated to 9 round capacity with Chip McCormick Shooting Star kits.

I'm psyched about this Colt. I'm very pleased with the fit and finish and the way the slide is mated to the frame. Lately, Colt 1911s that I've handled at the gun store seem to have a lot of play, but this one is tight. It's the first 10mm that I've personally owned and I love it judging from it's performance today. Not much snappier than 45ACP, IMO. I was set for a small nuke explosion.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

For those who haven't heard of Marianne Carniac, she was recently mentioned in the new issue of Guns and Ammo Book of the 1911 The Custom Edition.

1911 Forums

Her shop is in Michigan and she's the daughter of Russ Carniac, another famed Custom 1911 Smith.

It feels like a whole different animal with the Wilson Combat grip safety and the lighter trigger.

Thanks!

Good looking gun. If I ever run into a real good price on a blued one I might just have to try it out.

Thanks, guys!

I was looking at some Mec-Gar mags. The Colt mags are pretty good, though.

I keep ending up with stainless guns, even though I love blued ones, but this Delta looked pretty great in stainless.

Delta Elite

1911 Forums

Dan Wesson PM7

1911 Forums

I was just comparing these two 1911s of mine. The general fit and finish of the Dan Wesson is better than the Colt, with the exception of the work done by Ms. Carniak. Both of them shoot about the same accuracy-wise. I like the regular GI spring tube set-up of the Colt better, not to mention the DW's FLGR and the front cocking serrations, but I don't think I would get rid of the DW because of those concerns. Both very solid 1911s.

Even though some seem to think that the 10mm is some sort of tactical nuke explosion, I really didn't see that much % difference in recoil. The 10mm is obviously snappier, but I think I might like it a little better for target work. The 45ACP would be better for follow-up shots.

At this point the thin grip panels of the DW fit my hands better, but I had no trouble with the wrap-around variety on the Delta. Even though I typically hate those type of grips, they don't feel too bad and they certainly are grippy.

The sights on the Colt are very visible, so I don't think I'll change them out.
