Geez...
I wonder when departments are going to learn that spike strips are a really bad idea and begin allowing their officer to PIT, force off the road or otherwise crash fleeing vehicles at the first safe opportunity. This trend of putting the safety of felons ahead of officers and the public has got to stop. Too many people are getting hurt or killed because hand wringing administrators, liberal courts and politicians won't let LE do what needs doing.

This probably is not the thread to get in to a big discussion about this, but I think that the key is proper deployment of Stop Sticks. That means behind a big 'ol tree, overpass support, behind a guardrail, etc...something that a car is not coming through and does not look attractive to try driving through. If you look at the circumstances under which StopTech (the company that makes StopSticks) actually says you should deploy under, a lot of deployments do NOT meet their criteria. I guess you could call it the StopStick equivalent of Taser overdependence.

My sympathies to family and friends.
Plenty of cops are injured deploying these things and frankly, a better technology needs to be used to deploy them. Having a cop get into the street with a crazed maniac piloting a projectile with up to millions of pounds of kinetic energy coming at them is patently stupid.
