tell me about the remington 597

hey guys, this is my first time posting in the rimfire section, I am interested in getting some feedback on the remington 597. how is the overall performance of it, Is it reliable, and is it easy to strip it down and clean it?

I took my girlfriend too shoot with a friend and his girlfriend, this was her first time shooting and shot a ruger MK2 pistol, and the 597 (ya the pink one

) with a bsa scope. she really enjoyed shooting the 597 and before we were out of the drive way was asking about purchasing one.

I would like to know everyones overall opinion of the weapon. thanks guys

It was her 1st time shooting, and she wants a pink camo Rem 597?

It doesn't matter what we say about the rifle. That's the one she wants for her 1st firearm. Just go get it.

A first gun acts as a gateway to building interest in other firearms. The pink Rem 597 won't be her last one. Next thing you know, she will be asking to shoot your Glock.

The Remington 597 is like the best deal on a rimfire you can get, awesome autoloading accuracy - you just absolutely need to spend the $20 and $40 for the Volquartsen Edge Extractor and Volquartsen Target Hammer - it's ashame because it's basically absolutley necessary.

When you spend that $60 the rifle is completely changed. I did that on mine plus added a Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40mm and it's the TRUTH.

The bottom one is my 597. It's the OD Green Synthetic stock combo pack rifle from Dick's (They have the same thing in the Rem 700 SPS Varmint) ... comes with a "Remington" 3-9x32mm scope that you can save the mount and rings but need a new scope. Then you're golden.

I ended up getting the 597 TVP model because I'm a lefty and want the entire family to be able to shoot it. It is more accurate than I am and is the typical fun 22 rifle. I have not changed anything on the rifle, except taking down and polishing the metal parts that looked like they could use it. It likes Federal ammo the best, with Rem. a second. You won't regret getting one.

I love mine, I bought a Winchester 9-13" Sing swivel stud mountable bi-pod from Walmart yesterday for $40, its an exact Harris copy for $40 not $100, im happy, check it:

I really want to try spray painting the whole deal camo, i just dont understand exactly what and how to tape off things before I go at it.
