Desert Eagle 1911

What's the general opinion of Desert Eagle's 1911? I have a chance to buy one, and don't know much about it. The few reviews I have read online say good things. Anyone here have an opinion, either positive or negative?

Extremely nice 1911. Great buy for the money. Has the sweetest trigger pull I have ever felt from any 1911 right out of the box.

I checked one out at the LGS back when I was in the market for a 1911. It was solid feeling 1911 and it looked good. Like you all the reviews said nothing but glowing things. Then I looked up there customer service even thought I hope to never use it I still like to know its there. There customer service is nothing but horror story after horror story. I read a lot of they have had my pistol over 2months with no return ETA. Also they keep pistol 3-4months sent back no problem found. I decided to past on the Desert Eagle 1911 and go with the RIA instead. One other thing to note is on there website the warranty is very strict. They do not cover the finish if the gun is gotten any way other then a store front. Also you have to fill out a registration card are the warranty is void. Things like this on top of the poor customer service I read about. Scared me off I still think they feel like extremely solid handguns and I might get one in the future. I just want to be more comfortable with the 1911 platform first.

Here is a link to there warrenty you have to google search it to find it.

I love mine.

Its one of the best sub $700 1911s on the market.

Kahr Arms now owns Magnum Research, that should hopefully help with customer service issues as they transition and synch up. I have a Commander version on order and hope the good things said hold up for it as well. I have a close contact at Kahr and I'm sure they will get things straightened out at Magnum Research.

Its too bad they have that billboard size name on the slide. It kills the looks.

I agree, they could have done it better, should have made it smaller.

I have 2 and love them both.

Here's one wearing American Holly grips.

Everybody always says that about almost every 1911, but if they all looked exactly the same, what fun would it be to collect them all?

I had one but sold it to pursue other avenues.

It was a sweet gun.

I wish it came with a checkered front strap. I like the high cut.

Really, if it's going to say DESERT EAGLE that big on the slide, why not go for broke and make it take up the whole gun?

If you look at the bottom picture I posted above you will see where I put some 3M tape on the front strap. Not as "pretty" as checkering, but it fills the bill for right now.

It also helped with the grip, as I find smooth grips a bit harder to get a firm hold on.

No offense, but grip tape, just doesn't cut it for me.

None taken. As I stated above, it fills the bill for right now. I will probably sell/trade the Holly grips, as I have a set of VZ's on my other DE1911C and don't need the grip tape for it. Just can't get used to the smooth/slick feel of non-checkered grips.

Take care.
