I love how it says not sold to CA... I see that on a lot of sites, almost getting used to it.

Why do departments not give more notice that they are hiring? I just found out that a department I was interested in wants to hire 3 people. Unfortunately, the application deadline was last Friday. They gave about a week's notice...

Funny coincidence. Friend of mine from Germany sent me a picture today of his new M1A. It has the same thing written on a tag on the trigger guard.

I hear you. I went to a GI specialist, and got to see an ARNP for 5 minutes, and the doc for less than that. Over an hour in the office, too.

It's called filling administrative and legal requirements, even though they possibly had candidates in mind to hire already. My agency does that, as legally each job has to be posted, even though they plan on hiring someone within their own facilities. It's a CYA thing.

Yep, I'd say you're right.

In other news, the city council just shot down any possibility of a gig with the department I was testing with. Instead of filling the vacant spots they are reducing the department's authorized strength to match its current numbers. Back to square one...

We usually give a 5 day open period for internal postings and we allow 6 days when it is open to the public. Some tough to fill positions might be open and continuous until filled.

But that depends on the hiring practices of the agency and sometimes, if they know who they want, they just do what is minimally required and go through the motions. Hate to say it, but it is what it is.

Anyone else have bosses that manage by rumors? I hate rumors enough and generally want nothing to do with the nonsense....but it's ridiculous when the boss goes out of his way to get involved in rumors and try to use it as a management style.

Lot's of fun work lately - but getting fed up easy with the nonsense behind the walls sometimes.

Then there are the guns which are made to be legal to CA specs... we call them super soakers... but only if it is under 10 oz. capacity and does not fire full automatic bursts and doesn't have an evil pistol grip.

But seriously, there are companies right now that make guns to comply with the asinine CA laws on firearms... but it could be worse, I guess... we could be subject to NJ or HI style licensing requirements which are way beyond anything imaginable here.

If my livelihood does not require a state specific license (POST, State Bar), and I can find a job that pays me decently so I can maintain comparable living standards, I would be out of here in a week. Believe you me.

I think it's taught as a management style in a local school for aspiring supervisors. Management by rumor, supervision by hearsay, and decision making by making it up as you go along are staples of how it is around here.

A lot of good people have been run out based on rumors, ego, insecurity from the higher ups, hearsay, personal vendetta, baseless accusations and petty jealousies than bad people have been run out by proper discipline and due process. That is the failure of a lot of organizations, especially government.

In SJ my friend showed me the CA gun tweaks they have to do. The mag release with the hole and such... what a stupid idea, we dont even have that here...
If I would want to do North Hollywood shootout Nr. 2, Id just get the parts from Nevada or whatever and the party starts.

Talking about jobs, why dont you apply for Fbi or do your other work full time?

My job has kind of neat benefits at the moment, like very flexible working time and such, but it gets worse from year to year. Big change is coming up, our union is full of absolute idiots and I kind of start to hate my agency.

I
want
to
move
to
the
US

Will nowhere else accept your certification? Or do you just not want to deal with starting over regarding retirement time? I can understand that.

Got a call this afternoon from the department I'm testing with. Meeting with the detective doing my BG in the morning! I'm not getting my hopes up that they'll actually go through with hiring, but its a step in the right direction anyway.

CA is great that way... since CA does not recognize any other state, no other state recognizes CA.

Whereas there is a 10 state compact that recognizes each other's law license along the Eastern seaboard... and other interstate compacts everywhere, I have to take the state bar to be a lawyer in another state... and since I hate being a lawyer, having to work for something I hate just doesn't appeal to me.

Not sure about being a cop too, but I hear other states may be more generous in accepting a CA POST, but that is tougher since police pay in other states are pretty low compared to CA, even with CA's higher cost of living adjustment. We have fairly rookie cops here making six figures easily and even when adjusted, other states don't really come that close. That's my dilemma, the case of the golden handcuffs.
