Not sure about being a cop too, but I hear other states may be more generous in accepting a CA POST, but that is tougher since police pay in other states are pretty low compared to CA, even with CA's higher cost of living adjustment. We have fairly rookie cops here making six figures easily and even when adjusted, other states don't really come that close. That's my dilemma, the case of the golden handcuffs.
I can understand that; there's no way I'd switch to local or state here now after starting with the feds; it would be way too much of a pay cut.

How long till retirement for you? Might be worth starting to look for some place to head to after retirement, where your Cali pension will go much further.....

That hurt... it's at least 5 years!

Next time you come, I am leaving you in the middle of downtown LA with those bums on the street in tent city.

I have plans to get out of Cali as soon as possible and right now, retirement seems like the time to do it. Honestly, if this country doesn't pick up, I might even head out to another land where everything is cheaper. My pension won't be as great as someone who put in their 25-30 years since I plan on getting out at 20 years but that still leaves me able to do other work at a more leisurely pace.

Hell, come out this way. Pretty inexpensive cost of living (depending on the area of the state), about the most gun-friendly state in the union, and, to me at least, just plain pretty land.

Even a place like Kansas would be an improvement over Cali. I know of a family who moved to the area several years ago, from LA. They still live in the area. Missouri in the Ozarks is beautiful about any time of year, although the properties in places are more costly than they were at one time. The one attraction for me for Kansas right now is that they do not tax federal pensions here. Overall, the people seem to be OK here, especially in the rural areas up north of us a little ways. Not too bad for Yanks. My wife and I are still wondering where we will retire. Ultimately it will depend on what we can afford for land. Anyone want to go in on a vineyard?

Just be careful concerning the more back woods places, as they can get a little squirrelly.

Well, I traded my Sig in today, and ended up with an 870 home defense and some ammo. Filled a niche for me; I didn't have a good home-defense type shotgun in the collection. Now to get a side saddle, knoxx stock, and maybe a sling....

I am thinking maybe somewhere in South Carolina... Greenville-Spartanburg seemed very nice. I love that type of place.

It's hard to beat the weather in California. We just need to take it back over from the liberals some how

Well things went well again to day! I ended up taking a voice stress analysis instead of a polygraph. Its just a matter of wating now for the admin to make their selection. With only one opening, its going to be a nerve-racking next few weeks...

CJ, congrats on teh 870, they're great guns!

Picked up a Sig P239 yesterday, very clean gun and perfect for my girlie man sized hands. Now I need to find mags, no one around here has them for 9mm.

So I have this idea. There are quite cheap apartments to have in the USA. I thought about buying one, like a small apartment in Florida or California, to stay during vacation, or whatever life brings. What do you guys think, someone has any legal advice?

Nice! I was looking at them for a while, but to me, they're just so freakin' heavy for that small of a gun, with such a limited capacity. They sure are pretty, though!

Well, I'm picking up an AK74 from a coworker on Monday! 5 mags, 500+ rounds of ammo. I love tax time

OC, where do you find a cheap apartment in the LA area? I wouldn't advise buying any "cheap" apartments in the area, unless you are talking about the suburbs. If you are not going to come here that often, it's cheaper to just rent a vacation home.

When I go to Vegas, I rent vacation homes instead of a hotel because I get a whole house with garage for my car and bikes and a kitchen and sometimes a pool, for $400-500 for 3 days and I don't have any rushed checkout or anything come Monday to rush out by 11am or anything like that.

I found some cheap apartments in Florida, near Daytona beach. No luck in LA yet. Seems like Florida has some good offers.
