A Black and White world?

Since joining the LE or Corrections field, do you tend to see things in more of a back and white perspective, or less?

No, the world is an ever changing shade of grey.

I agree.

The longer I am a cop the more (on average) I see the world (the human aspect) as degrees of grey.

There really are multiple sides to every story.

Gray, followed by gray, coupled with greater shades of gray.

Very few things are black and white anymore.

Any cop who sees the world in black and white is either a rookie who hasn't even finished the academy yet or one who has never accomplished a thing and is miserable to be around.

I'd say that in the sense that either you did or didn't commit a crime, the world is largely black and white. Where it becomes gray is when you start to consider intent and/or justifications for their actions.

Of course, since without intent or with justification you may disregard the commision of a crime, basically that makes it shades of gray.

I guess that was a long way of saying that fo me it's both, but more gray than anything.

No, black and white was what I saw when I started. I know better now.

As Pete Malloy put it, "The only thing black and white in this job is the car."

Oddly enough, our cruisers are gray.

As an art major in college, one of the first project I had to do was paint a 10-step gradation, starting with pure white to black. But life has infinite shades of gray.

I wish life was as simple as "if it's legal, it's always appropriate."

Certain things are black and white, most everything is shades of gray though.

As I see it there are 2 things that are black and white in this world. Life and death.
Everything else is encompassed in an ever changing cesspool of grey.

I'm not jaded or anything.

Definitely not. See my sig line.

I never knew there were so many shades of gray until I got into LE.

Never would have guessed. Art major turned cop.

I think everyone works with someone who is very black and white about everything. It seems like the longer I am in corrections, the more things become a shade of grey. I can't tell if its a good thing or not, but I am writing less reports

I'm currently assigned to our work release facility. If I have any problem children at all, I'll quickly send them packing back to general population.

The majority of the guys here, really want to be on work release.

That being said, I've been over here for around 5 months, and I've had the first use of force in this building since it re-opened nearly 5 years ago.
