New gun purchase - xd or xdm?
I am looking into getting a new gun and have decided on either an springfield xd or xdm. For those of you who own one or both, I am wondering if there is that much of a difference and which you prefer and why?
Is the xdm "match barrel" any more accurate then its brother xd?
I have read that many people prefer the trigger on the xdm. Do you notice a substantial difference?
Any other information and person experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

i was searching the inet today to find out how much the XD-M 5.25" guns cost.
saw the gun in my NRA mag and was interested on how much it cost and where to buy; came up dry.

I own an XD9 Service and have shot the XDM many, many times. For me, I prefer the good ol' XD9. I was actually more accurate with it and it felt great in my hand. The stock triggers on both are good and I can't notice a big difference between the two. I have added the PRP Ultimate Match Trigger Kit which is an amazing trigger upgrade. I had them bring it down to 3.5 lbs and the reset is short and crisp. The break is great for a striker fired pistol.

Go to www.xdtalk.com for XD stuff. I'm an XD fan, have two but no XDM's.

I have an XD45 that I love. I have shot the XDm9 and liked it. I prefer the XD but do like the heavy barrel on the m. If I had to buy again I'd probably get another XD.

I own 4 XD's and 0 XDm's. It is all personal preference in my opinion. I do not like the feel of the XDm which is why I think I didn't shot it as well. I do not see one of those in my safe anytime soon.
I might be trading a couple of the XD's just because they are safe queens, I only carry and shoot 2 of them.
My recommendation is for you to shoot both and buy the one that you feel more comfortable with. The XDm has some whizzbang "new" features that don't mean anything to me personally, but others say they are the greatest thing out there.

I just picked up a XD45C and now they are releasing the XDm45C. At first I was a bit pissed. but I'm fine with it now. I don't understand why it has one less round in the XDm? I did go to the range and maybe I just got lucky, but the XD trigger is fine. I also own a XDm45 and I like it as well. I did get the tan frame, and it's not available in the XDm, so that's a plus since the tan frames are more accurate and they make your butt look slimmer ...

bklynpete,
If you ever decide the trigger in the XD isn't to your liking, try to find somebody that has had a trigger job and compare. I prefer the springer precision trigger jobs myself, I have tried canyon creek and powder river as well.

I looked at the Springer site, and was pretty sure I'd wind up doing the trigger job until I shot it. It shoots really well, so the old adage, don't fix what ain't broke works for me. Plus I carry the XD45C, so the Springer kit might be a bit too light. I know SA does a carry trigger job, but again, it's not needed for my purposes.

Definately go with the XDM, the match grade barrel makes a huge difference on this gun. I could shoot far tighter groups with the XDM over the original XD...........overall better !!!

Just got an XD45 Tactical 5" in dark earth with black slide. My 1st XD, had never even shot one. But wanted to get a hi-cap 45 and was ready to grab a G21 when I decided to give XD/XDms a look. Did a bunch of research and couldn't justify extra $$ for the m.
Saw a YouTube review by Hickok45 comparing a G21 and a XDm 45. He's a Glock guy, but noticed when it was time to shoot another round of targets, he always reached for the XDm 1st. Kind of read between the lines there and could see he was fond of the XDm.
Different triggers certainly. I like Glock triggers, know exactly when they will fire, but don't shoot my G36 enough to be locked into it.
I'm happy. Feels great, no malfunctions, accurate. $506 out the door from Bud's and I've got 3 free mags and a mag holder coming which sweetens the deal by another $75 or so. (offer ends today, I guess).
I'd buy another no problem. Looking at a compact 9 with the extended mag. Current hi-cap 9 is a Beretta, like it, but feels a little awkward sometimes. XD/ms certainly have a cool factor going for them. m's a little more expensive because they are newer/cooler? maybe. I'm a pretty good shot, but don't need a match grade barrel.
I'll learn to love the trigger. If this was a smaller/snappier gun, I'd probably flinch a lot more and hate it, but it's a tank.
