MY AR 15 build

I am waiting on my stock kit and sights to complete this first build. Here's what I put together and how much it cost me

Spikes striped lower $120 out the door at my local gun shop
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/...ings-p-52.html

Spikes enhanced LPK $150
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/...kit-p-422.html

Magpul mil spec stock kit $150
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/...lack-p-45.html

Magpul pistol grip $20
http://www.spikestactical.com/new/z/...ack-p-322.html

Regular safety selector $10(I hated the ambi that came in LPK)
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1...afety-Selector

DPMS 20" upper with stainless bull barrel $400.00 NIB from friend
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/486...loat-handguard

Troy flip up rear battle sight $119
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/226...aluminum-black

Front MI front gas block mount flip up sight $80
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/234...ar-15-aluminum

So my first build was pretty easy with no problems and total cost was $1049.00

I am debating on what scope/optic to put on this beast. I want a scope/optic that can be used for close up and distance work if needed.
I was considering this one.

Looks heavy, might want to think about a bipod on that beast. It looks to be a long range gun, I'd put a long range optic on it like a SS scope from SWFA or something along those lines.

As others have said, you will want to put a decent scope on your setup with that DPMS upper.

What is the most you are willing to spend on a scope? Let me know and I'll give you some suggestions.

I agree with the others the scope you are looking at is not well suited to your stated purpose. It has no magnification so it will get you no more range than iron sights.

Okay here are a couple good ones.

1. Burris Fullfield II Lighted Reticle Rifle Scope 3-9x. This scope is on sale for $100 off on Midway USA. Burris makes great quality optics for a decent price.

Leupold Mark AR Rifle Scope 3-9x. Leupold makes some of the best scopes around, this one is made specifically for ARs. Great scope.

Which ever one you choose, don't skimp on the scope mount. I like LaRue Tactical but those are pricey.

The only part that I don't like is the 20" bull barrel. Seems like a waste of metal - unless of course you are planning to load match ammo and shoot competitively. But in that case you'd want a match trigger, and would lose the BUIS. Also, the CTR is a bit light for a bull barrel, and I'd seek better balance. Maybe a UBR, or even a standard A2 stock (if it fits you. If not, there's the shorter Sully Stock that keeps the weight and look of the A2, but in a shorter length for better fit.)

But congrats on the build. Lord knows I've learned a lot just from building AR's and finding out what I like - which is of course the most important thing. If you are happy, then all is right with the world.

I am not using the 20-" upper on this lower after learning too much about AR's and weight I am ordering a 16" upper with nice railed hand guard that is flush with flat top. I am using my Troy rear flip sight on it and will purchase a nice front flip and go with a Vortex red dot. WOW the things you learn on GT about AR's...LOL!

That Nikon has the BDC calibrated for 55 gain bullets...make sure your gun can stabilize them. It would make more sense if they calibrated for a 62 grain bullet.
