My first pistol was a COLT Combat Commander in .45 ACP. It was a bit of a handful for a first pistol, especially having no experience of any sort with handguns. I think the learning curve would have been steeper if it had been a lighter pistol. Over the years I've owned and shot a lot of 1911 pistols. I like the added weight of the steel frame. But that's just me. If your going to cc, go with the aluminum frame. Otherwise, for range and HD, etc., go steel. The price you quote is a good one. JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.
