The g20 is available in gen 2, the 29 is gen 2.5 or gen 3 only...it depends on the application the gun is needed for as to which one is more "likeable". Theyre both equally versatile as far as barrel conversions go...and if you add an extended barrel to a 29, it makes it 4.78", which is longer than a 20. The 20 has the advantage here though, because barrels are made for it as long as 6". A 29 is a lot more concealable than a 20. A 20 is going to be easier to handle being that it is heavy, it also has more capacity, but this advantage is negated by the fact that the 29 will take the same 15 round mag that the 20 does.
So, basically it comes down to how much and how often the gun will be carried concealed.

Arushus: Well put! If conceal carry is a priority I go with the 29, other wise the 20 is your pistol.

I carry my29 more than I carry my 20. You will end up with both anyway so not important what order you get them in.

Or you could just go with the pistol with better sight radius and shootability, get the 20, and learn to CC it.

A 2nd Gen G20 is hard to beat....at least in my opinion. But, like others have said, you will end up getting a G29 eventually as well.

Theyre right, you will get both of them eventually, but if it is to fill several different rolls, including concealed carry, Id get the 29. You can get an extended barrel for range accuracy purposes. Only reason for you to pick the 20 over the 29 in your situation is if you plan on hunting with it much...I recommend getting the +0 mag extension from pearce or scherer so you can get your pinky on the grip too. The 29 is the only subcompact where I see the pinky extension as being pretty much a must-have.

However, if you'd put a 4.58" extended barrel from StormLake, your G29 "becomes" a G20 whenever you want it to.... in terms of accuracy AND speed.
Swapping the barrel takes less than 30sec., given some practice....

I made that point about a 29 becoming the length of a 20 fairly easy. But as far as it matching the 20 in terms of accuracy and speed, I find that arguable...

Well speed is apples to apples with the extended barrel.
The shorter sight radius, in theory, would be less accurate. But many of us find that our G29s, G30s and G27s are far more accurate than their bigger brothers. If a guy lives in a climate that makes CCWing a full sized pistol hard, then he should look at the G29sf. Add that longer barrel and you've effectively made yourself a G20 for a fraction of the price and logistics.
