<style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style> Took a doe right before dark this evening using my Glock 20SF 10MM with 6.02" Lone Wolf Barrel and some handloaded 180gr Hornady XTP's pushed @ 1300 fps. The shot was about 50 yards and I scored a high lung shot that that dropped the doe in it's tracks., and the180gr XTP made a clean pass through. When I approached the doe she was barely hanging on (probably just nerves), but I went ahead and hit her again with the G20 because I like to make sure it's a done deal as fast as possible.


Although I didn't get the buck I was hoping for this year I did have a young buck run directly at me while in the prone in some pine thickets over looking a fresh scrape. I decided to let him get a little bigger as he looked like he would make a decent 8 pointer in the future, and I was hoping a mature buck would come out after him. The cool thing about the young buck is that he was trotting directly at me and didn't notice me until he was right within 10 yards of me before he spooked.


Next time out I hope to get another close shot, but using my 870 Police with slugs. I like seeing how close I can get as I find it a good challenge that takes some skill honing. I got bored hunting with my 700 LTR 308Win, and wanted to even the odds a bit. I had to put a lot more work in this year scouting to find the areas that would allow a close shot and offered good concealment, but I also learned a lot more about the deer and hunting.


End result I'm happy to have made a clean kill with a handgun for the first time, and I'm extremely impressed with the 10mm and Hornady 180gr XTP. It's quiet impressive that the XTP gets such good penetration while also expanding very well.

Thank you! The doe was nothing to post pictures over, but I was really happy to have made a harvest with the 10mm and put some meat in the freezer.

Good job, man! Good to hear that the 10mm served you well. I've found that the heavy XTP's kill pretty quickly if you put them in the right place.

The Demokratik Peoples Workers Republik of Bankorrupt IL also does not permit semi-autos for hunting.
I have to chose between my S&W 610 or the Ruger BlackHawk Buckeye convert if I want to use a 10MM for deer hunting.
