"It’s about fear. And ultimately, what is the most frightening thing? Ignorance. So the way we deal with ignorance is, we make up stuff. It’s very human of us."
Yep. Every evil spirit, fairy, troll, monster, god, goddess and demon is the natural response of an ignorant human to explain what he doesn't understand.

just like proud teenagers who know it all and rebel against their parents' wisdom,
being held accountable by an authority figure is really what terrifies atheists, which is why they rebel against the notion of a Creator.
so, yes, it is all about fear.

Just like Jesus it's the pride and vanity of the Pharisees we're rebelling against. As Paul of Tarsus said,

That’s an excellent demonstration of a fundamental lack of understanding of Atheism.

Riiiiight. Just like Christians are only afraid of the consequences when they can't live up to Odin's expectations, so they go with a religion that advertises lots of forgiveness even when they screw up....

Now if he had said imaginary figure rather than authority figure, he'd have been right on the money..
