New Winchester .38 SPL ammmo.

Not sure if this is old news, but I just bought a new .38 Special, and while purchasing the standard Winchester white box ammunition, I noticed the new bullets are flat point, which is slightly wider than the Semi Wadcutters I remember seeing. Not only that, but with the copper jacket, the edges should stay sharp through penetration.

Again, not sure if this is old news, but I figured for an older revolver, or for a lighter recoil load, this wouldnt be a terrible option for self defense. But with that said, I prefer the 135 +P Gold Dots.

You missed my point. I was simply stating that the flat point bullets they swapped to are more effective than the standard round nosed bullets they used to load.

Many terminal ballistics experts recommend wadcutters and semi wadcutters in short barrel .38 Special revolvers, specifically for older model weapons and for recoil sensitive people who cant handle a full power +p JHP. I think that this would be an easy alternative for those, and with the copper jacket, the edges of the nose may not smooth over during penetration like a non jacketed bullet may do.

EDIT: reading back over the original post it may not have been very clear, but I was just noting the swap from round nose bullets to a flat point.
