Winchester Ranger 180 gr Bonded HP Z Q4355 = jam-o-matic

I bought a bunch (1000) of this ammo, since I found a very good deal online (about $15 / box). Cheaper than FMJ range ammo.

It turned my G23 into a jam-o-matic. My Glocks have always eaten anything I've fed them. I tried various magazines, including some brand new ones. Every few rounds, I'd get a failure to feed (all the way).

Anyone else? Thoughts?

I have shot a few and it is very soft shooting IMO. Far more troubling is that reports are filtering back from the street that it doesn't work well in the Real World. One dept. dropped it I have read after several shootings and the rounds failed to expand. Not good. I really like the 155 gr. Fed. HST and it is available now in bulk to the layman.

It is not supposed to be used as duty ammo. I will admit that I used the ZRA9B 9mm ammo on and off for two years as my duty ammo. I did shoot hundreds of rounds as range ammo so I knew it was reliable in my G17

It sux if it will not work for your gun as plinking ammo.

I bought 1000 rounds of the same stuff?
Winchester Range bonded LE 180 gr 40?
It's some of the most reliable ammo I've shot.
My G27 has never jammed on any ammo including this one.
My Kahr MK40 elite ran it's 200 rond break in with it without failure.
Had some FTF with Speer 40 Short Barrel and that's about it.

I too use the 180 rangers for target practice.
very clean, near match accurate and feed reliably for me?
The hollow point isn't that big.
I'm thinking something other than ammo is the problem.

Have you tried the ammo in a different gun?

Surprising. I use 165... irk why 180 would be any different.

Most of the Z Ranger ammo is ok. I would use it for function testing or SHTF and keep the RA40B as my carry ammo.

I'll have to try it in my G27 - my only other .40-cal. But, my G23 has not ever choked before.

Send the rest of the bulk to me, I will test them in my G-23/27 and give you a second opinion, mine feed and fire the stuff like it was made fro them. Hey actually it is.
I hope you get it figured out, I bet it works 100% in the other Glock.

180 grain PDX1

I had 2 FTF out of about 70 rounds with the chump box stuff. I since have switched to 180 grain HST'S and have had no failures. I also switched to the hst's because they have a good street record in Columbus and San Diego. That is something that a new round can't give you/a good street record.

To be clear: I bought these for range practice, not for SD. They were so cheap ($15 / box).... cheaper than most FMJ rounds. So, I figured nothing to lose, and I don't care about a "street record," since these were intended for range use. Also, I don't believe this is a "new round."

I was just curious why they'd hang up in my G23. I wondered if it was an OAL issue. I should get a micrometer and compare them to other rounds.

PS... I have a VERY ample supply of HST for SD use.

I have had no problems with this ammo in my glock 27, 23 or 22. Soft shooting but very accurate and consistent. I plan to order more. Sees like a real bargain to me.

Thanks for posting this. You helped convince me to pay a little more for the HST overrun which just arrived yesterday. I haven't shot it yet but it is gorgeous looking ammo which should be good for carry. The hollow point is so huge on this round, I've taken to calling it 'largemouth'. The inside of the HP is filled with metal (lead?) in a concave shape. It is a very nicely detailed round.

Fired 100 rds through my g4 23 with zero issue, as they say your results will vary.

Funny, I just picked up 500 of those, too. Arrived today. (SG Ammo.)

I've seen enough issues on the range with this ammunition--in my pistols and those of others--that I won't carry it. I am back to Speer Gold Dot.

OK... I had some time at the range today and tested this ammo in my G27. While I did notice it was oddly difficult to load into the magazine (even with an Uplula), in a box of 50, I had ZERO failures of any kind. I also noticed they felt rather "hot" with a sharper recoil than I recall as "normal" with the G27.

So, now... when I have time... I'll have to try it again with my G23 with some different magazines.

I just ran 200rnds of this Ammo using four different mags through my Gen4 G23, no problems at all. For which I am happy as there are another 800 waiting. Bought mine through SGA also

Recently bought 500 rounds. Took them to the range today and fired 50 thru my G23 Gen4 without any problem.

Why is it that Winchester Ranger Bonded JHP 180gr Z Q4355 should NOT be used for self defense?

Could you guys please provide references for such claims?

I have shot at least 100 rounds, each, thru my 23 and 27, with ZERO issues.
I bought a 500 rnd case from sgammo.com

Well, it seems this thread died before I could get an answer, to my previous post.

So, I ordered some of this http://www.sgammo.com/product/federa...ct-ammo-xm40hc for carry ammo.
Is this stuff bad, also?
