I want a 1911.....
But don't want a 45acp. What options do I have and around how much coin would I be looking at? I'm talking about in the 9mm flavor.

Rock Island - 450
STI - 650 Spartan, 1000 Trojan
Springfield - 900 Loaded
Kimber - 900 Target II
All are 9mm.

I am equally surprised that nobody has mentioned the Hi-Power.
Yes...the Hi-Power.
It was designed as a 9mm (by the same guy....Mr. Browning) and works well in that caliber. The 1911 was not designed in that caliber and when you go straying away from Browning's design....you can increase the chances of having troubles.
The Hi-Power is single action, like the 1911. The Hi-Power is all steel and well made like the 1911. The Hi-Power is accurate and totally reliable like a 45 caliber 5" 1911. The Hi-Power is ergonomic and slim and carries and points well like the 1911.
Be sure to check out the FN Hi-Power before you buy a 9mm 1911. You might like it. As a 12 year Hi-Power owner/shooter....I think its one of the best 9mms ever made.

They only made 50 PM9s in 2011, but reportedly will make 200 in 2012.
But they cost significantly more than $1K, and while my 2011 version is a good pistol, I'm not sure they justify their asking price compared to other 9mm 1911s.

I have been wanting a Springfield Loaded in 9 for awhile, last I checked a few months ago the price was about $825 +tx.
The Kimber Stainless II also comes in 9mm in the same price range, but comparing the two I like the Loaded better.

The SA Loaded is a good buy, and compares well to the Kimber Custom II. I prefer front-strap checkering, but it you wanted, that could be added later.

This Wilson Sentinal is a nice 9mm and will set you back around $3500

Thanks guys! For my price point it seems I'm limited for the 9mm category. I don't want a 45 due to ammo costs but I might have to settle with a Springfield GI.

I'm not knocking the RI, I'll ask you this, would you trust one for a edc piece? I posted this thread because in all honesty I'm getting tired of my Glock and need change, I really don't have use/need for more than one pistol. If I don't go the 1911 route, I'm might go with a beretta 92. The polymer isn't really my thing anymore.

Will these guns fire five hundred thousand rounds without failure? Probably not? Will they fire several mags worth, or even several hundred rounds worth without failure? Highly probable.
