Help me choose my first
Shortly after Christmas I will be purchasing my first 1911. I was going to get a fnp45 but after drooling over even the basic 1911s I've settled on a budget 1911. The three I am considering are:
American Classic II
RIA FS Duo Tone
RIA 2011 Tactical
What say you?

No experience with any of them, and they all come from the same place, so just pick the one you like the most.

Well I picked up my ACII this afternoon! I went with it over the other budget offerings for several reasons, not least of which was that it was available at my local Academy.

Very interested in this thread. I feel morally obligated to purchase a Philippine made 1911 in 2012.

My preference is the Filipino guns imported by American Tactical. Costs about the same as the ones you've mentioned, but finished a bit nicer.
American Classic is made by Metro Arms. RIA/Cimmaron/High Standard/et al, are made by ARMSCOR, and American Tactical is made by SAM.

I didn't see the RIA 2011 Tactical w/rail or the RIA duo tone in there though.

I own 2 Metro Arms and 2 RIAs and they are great guns for the money. Fit and finish is best on the MAs but all 4 have never given me a single problem. The hammer is horrible on the AC11 but grips are ugly on the RIAs grips. I change grips on most of my 1911s anyway. Trigger seems to me a liitle better on MAs. Flip a coin as they are all good shooters for about the same price.

I think I'll be getting the American Classic II. Buds has it for cheaper than Cheaperthandirt has the RIA.

Well looks like I'll be around here often. Just ordered the American classic II off buds. $452 after insurance and transfer fees. Woulda cost me $552 at my lgs after tax. Saving $100 ftw!
