Are these things really going for $800?

Wow!

I haven't been looking at prices recently. This is nuts.

That is ridiculous. Sadly though, some people don't want to wait and will pay the extra money.

Those guns MSRP for $799.00, anyone that would pay that for one is an idiot in my book. Which is why I stay away from AUCTION sites because an auction is a FUND raiser by design. I have found several posts just today for people paying from $569.00 to $650.00 out the door for brand new in the box SR1911's. That is typical Gun Broker, reason I NEVER go there. Patients will serve you MUCH better and your wallet will benafit greatly from your patients.

Ruger has been doing this, at least, since 1986. I remember the long awaited arrival of the P85. Notice I said 1986! They get everyone in a rage about their new offering, and at least for the the first year of introduction, it is almost unobtainable! Suggested retail is thrown out the door, and the price sky rockets. A year from now, you'll see them everywhere! Now for the bad news! After the first of the year, rumor has it all Rugers are going up $30 per firearm!

Good point. I remember being on an LCP waiting list for quite awhile. Now, I didn't pay an inflated price, but I still had to wait.

Actually, if you know what to look for, Gunbroker can be great. I wouldn't have many of the more obscure firearms in my collection had it not been for Gunbroker and other auction sites.

I'll agree with this. If you want to buy a run of the mill service type gun - GB is not your friend. But for something a little different... or less than widely known and recognized - GB can be a great place to pick up some treasures.

Some of my favorite GB snags...

Some sellers doesn't seem to know the difference between MSRP and actual retail pricing.

Went to a local dealer today and they had one in the case for$629 nib.

I handled it for a bit and said I'd take it, then was told it wasnt for sale, it was just a demo and I could order one.
It's nice, but not tie up $600+ for an unknown time frame nice.

I thought $800 was bad until I saw this:

I wouldn't mind having one but am not going to pay that much for one. Have seen a few going for right under the 600 OTD mark, and thats about the right price range. 800 for a used one is just crazy.

That's different. Its not an actual bid. People can charge whatever they want.

The $800 on GB is an actual bid.

Gunbroker is ok if you are flexible. I picked up a glock 23 gen 4 with two - 22 round mags as well as three of the 15 end mags

Just like the second guy says, hard to find.
All about supply and demand.

I'm glad that I am patient beyond belief and I can wait or do without it.
There are plenty of nice 1911's around that are available at "normal" prices.

$850 at the local Gander Mountain. I couldn't suppress my derisive laugh on my way out the door.
