Rough draft for letter to Congressman (any good?)
Dear
As you are aware there is a national debate going on about supposed “gun control.” Honor your oath to protect the United States Constitution and vote NO! Our Constitutional rights have been infringed upon far enough through egregious bills such as the “Patriot Act” and the “National Defense Authorization Act” etc. I will not vote for anyone in the future who threatens to take away Constitutional rights of the people even if it is popular at the time. We are a nation of laws, a Republic. Please keep in mind that the Constitution does not grant our rights (which are inalienable God-given rights). The language in the bill of rights binds the Government against taking actions that deny these basic liberties to the people.
If your true goal is to protect our children, then enact legislation that will do that. Banning firearms that are rarely used in crime (less than 1% of the time) is not going to stop such tragedies; this was proven in 1999 when the Columbine shooting took place under the 1994 ban. Do something meaningful, please. Make committing the insane easier. Put armed security guards in our schools. But do not strip us of our rights and property by passing additional anti-gun laws that have historically had no positive effect on crime in our nation or others.
[I wrote the first paragraph, the second is a shameless cut and paste from Sturmwehgre who didn't mind us using it]
