Dillon 550B.... is this a good deal?

I've found a 550B listed in like new condition complete with caliber conversions for 45 ACP , 40 S&W , 357 Sig. He's asking $400. Is that a good deal?

No. I'd recommend passing on it. Send me the ad so I can call him and chew him out.

Very good deal. Even if it's in calibers you don't want to load for, you can flip the caliber conversions pretty easily.

Buy it for $400 then sell it to Little Stevie for $700... he'll buy anything that's blue.

You should see his collection of Smurf dolls. Not to mention parts of his body that are blue.

A very good deal. As noted, you can sell the other dies sets & tool heads if you don't need them & make it even cheaper. If the dies are Dillon, then you are really getting a score.

There are better deals to be had, but you'll wait a LONG time to find one. That's one of the best deals I've seen lately for a 550.

Not as good of a deal as I got on my 550

But yeah great deal on it, you won't be disappointed with the 550, its a excellent press.

AND....no questions lifetime warranty, this is very nice when your starting out and break something on accident. I had broken a primer tube end when I first got mine, called them up, told them I broke it. Was wanting to pay for it since I had broke it, just asked me for my address and it showed up a few days later.

No dies included. I'm a total noob to this so does this still seem like a good deal?

A brand new 550b is around $420 last time I checked. I think caliber conversions are $45 each.

Personally I'd just buy new unless you actually load all those calibers.

Hmm...no dies, but the caliber conversions are included? Shell plates for .40/.357 SIG are the same, as are the locator buttons, but the powder funnels will be different. Be sure they are included as well. Also, check the powder measure and primer parts for completeness. You should have small/large powder slides, as well as the large & small primer tubes and slides.

Try to price out the same thing on the brianenos.com site to see how far off you'll be if you were to buy shiny and new...

The guys here are helpful, and will advise you on any questions/problems you may run into when getting setup. There are good stickies at the top of the forum, too. Good luck, and have fun!

Price it out on Enos' site, then figure 80% of the new price if the setup is in great shape and complete. Figure 75% or less if there is rust, damaged or missing items. You can then make a wise decision.

Although Dillon has an excellent customer care policy, I don't feel that it should be abused when one is buying used equipment and wants them to replace missing parts for free. Now, if you have a press and you damage a part, thats an entirely different situation.

Caliber conversions can be pricey. Multiple caliber conversions can be very expensive. The cost of 2 caliber conversions would be 150 dollars. The cost of the press with 1 caliber conversion.

Steve, caliber conversions for a 550b are $45 IIRC. I believe all a caliber conversion consists of is a powder funnel, locator pins, and she'll plate.
