G30/G30sf holster ?

I had planed to use my GSSF coupon on a G36 but I got to handle both a G30 and a G30sf this week and have decided to get one of these. Both felt good but I think the sf Will be the way to go for me. My question is that while checking holsters I have found some makers list the 30 and the 30sf differently. I can't see anything that would require a different holster but I don't want to order the wrong one. For those that have had both is there a difference? Thanks

P.S. I have always felt that a gen3 21 grip just felt to big in my hand but the g30 felt and pointed great. I have no idea why.

Holster fit is the same. Differences may exist if you choose a thumb break holster.

Doyle,

I did the same thing last year for my GSSF purchase--I compared a G36 (what I wanted to get first,) a G30, and a G30SF side-by-side. Although the G36 felt about the same as a G19, the differences between the G30/G30SF were big. I already had an older G21 (full-size) so the G30 felt pretty much the same. The G30SF felt a lot easier to hold, and I was able to use a better part of my trigger finger, too. So, the G30SF is what went home with me, and is still part of the CCW rotation in a Comp-Tac MTAC IWB holster. I'm a big fan of their holsters, having gathered a bunch which are still in a drawer. I may just sell off some of those, since I really don't use them much.

Enjoy your new GSSF pistol!

Thanks for the replies. I just could not see a difference in holsters for these two guns. I usually carry iwb but don't know how this will work with the 30. I think I may try a pancake for this one first then decide on in iwb.

Thanks again

I like the Crossbreed Supertuck IWB at 4 O'clock. Very comfortable.

Thanks Glockster, I have tried the crossbreed and it is a very good holster. I also have a Theis holster for my 19 and prefer it to the crossbreed. The Theis holster seems smaller and I find it more comfortable. Thanks

The other difference between a G30 and a G30SF is if the G30 is an older model without the light rail. Most kydex holsters made for a G30 without the light rail will not fit a light railed G30 or G30SF.
I have a G30 without the light rail and a G30 SF and my Blade Tech OWB made for the G30 without the light rail will not fit my G30 SF. The G30SF is a little thicker around the light rail making it not fit non light rail holsters.

Thanks for the replies, It will be a new one with the rails. Shadyscott I have looked at your holsters and really like them. I am thinking of a leather pancake that will ride high and tight. I usually use kydex with my Glocks and leather with my 1911's but I think I want to try leather for this one and start carrying owb for awhile.

Thanks again

My G30 (non sf) has a light rail.

I have both a Comp-Tac MTAC and the Comp-Tac Infidel for a G30sf. See my review post here about the MTAC holster.

The MTAC is nice but I prefer the Infidel for daily carry. I really enjoy the draw feeling and re-holstering feeling of the all-kydex holsters.

The MTAC is more comfortable for all-day wear but the Infidel is more practical (easier to draw and re-holster, easier to get on and off). Don't worry...in the end you'll probably get both like I did!

I also have a Don Hume OWB holster for the G30 that is nice, but I only use it when I can wear a jacket or coat (winter carry only).

You are correct all G30 and G30SF now have the light rail. I am not sure but it was somewhere after 2002 or so that they added the light rail to the G30's

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I have decided that I want to try a leather pancake holster and start carrying owb. What I have not decided is if I like the 30 or the 30sf the best. I have small to average hands but the 30 sure felt good just handling it. Thanks again

Let's us know how you like that holster. I've never found an OWB for this gun that works like I want it to.

I love my HighNoon "Sky High" holster. Rides very high and tight on the hip.

Very nice.

Thanks everyone, I ordered a pancake holster and mag carrier from Adams leather this week. I should have it by the time I am ready to pick up the gun. I still haven't decided on what I like best the 30 or the 30sf but I will soon. Thanks again
