Did I do well on this deal? Also, 44 mag ammo?
Traded a LNIB Ruger SR-22 rifle that never really did it for me, for a like new with no box or papers Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag and $50. Gun is blued, has a 5 or 5.5 inch barrel, and fluted cylinder (thought they were all non-fluted). That SR-22 was a impulse purchase, and the novelty wore off quick.
Oh, now I need to get some 44 mag ammo. Can you point me in the right dirrection of some affoardable practice ammo?

I'd say you got the better end of the deal! I don't know when they might have had fluted cylinders, but I thought the Blackhawk had fluted cylinder. Are you sure it's a Super Blackhawk? I believe all the Super Blackhawks had a squared rear portion of the trigger guard......dragoon style, I think it's referred to as......
If you're going to shoot 44mag regularly, you might as well think about investing in some reloading equipment........otherwise, just go down to the LGS, grit your teeth, and pay the price!

Affordable 44mag ammo? Good luck, last time I looked it was around 40 a box, I still have some that I bought 10 years ago when I bought my 44mag that is marked 17.99 a box.

I'd say that you made out well. The ammo is pricey. I'll second the advice on reloading if you plan on shooting it often.

The "new model" designation is probably the difference........
Still......I think you made a good deal.

Sounds like it's time to learn how to cast your own bullets and load your own ammo. Then you can load up a box of 50 rounds of 44Mag for about $4 bucks.
"New Model" simply means that it has the transfer bar safety as opposed to the "Old Model" which was just like a Colt SAA.
If you could post a pic it might help to clear things up a bit.

That's about where I left off when I started rolling my own.
OP - great deal on the BH. It's expensive to feed, but sooooo much fun. I can't help much with where to go for factory, or even how the stuff performs, QC, et cetera anymore...
We want pics.

Man O Man, you made a GREAT deal!. Move your **** on over from the rookie category of gun swapper to mid-level Before you go firing off a bunch of 44 mag I'd suggest you go get some aluminum cased CCI Blazer 44 special JHP. It is a great round and won't beat you up, also makes a good self-defense load. Check out www.ammoman.com for ammo

Some of the SuperBlackhawks got fluted cylinder and some don't. If memory serves, only the 4-5/8 barrel one got unfluted cylinder AND rounded trigger guard. The longer barrel models got the fluted cylinder and the dragoon-style trigger guard. (straight in the back).
